This was the phase when America was going through tough times during World War II. The depression that came after the war, the changes in the political alignment and the Second World War itself opened the gates for Economic egalitarianism. The characteristics of equality during this period included; rise in the pays of people, particularly of those belonging to the lower and middle classes. The second characteristic was the economic expansion due to the imposition of fair deal and new deal in the year 1949 and 1933 to 1938 respectively which allowed the opposing parties to settle down on one ground.

These deals relieved economic pressure and eradicated inequality from the society. This era showed the greatest example of egalitarianism as the black people had more access to jobs and their pay was incremented quickly, there was no discrimination among the people. The role of the government in ensuing equality among the people was seen in the initiation of new deal and fair deal programs. The new deal program worked on three basic principles which were; relief of the unemployed and poor people, recovery of economy to the usual standard, and lastly, reform of the economic system to avert any future occurrence of the great depression.

The new deal was then followed by the fair deal which further ensued equality among all. Government also declared racial discrimination in schools as unconstitutional which was a major achievement by the then government. In 1930’s the black also gained involvement in the union, because people realized the fact that no organization would be complete without the black labor in them. The corporate sector of America also played great role in egalitarianism of that era. They blamed the government for the great depression and hence fought hard to fight it, they reduced restrictions on anti-competitive practices.
