According to the report findings there are many disadvantages that occur as a result of institutional racism. For instance the institutional racism by students in schools may result to high level of school drop out by the students belonging to the minority group which may extend to the minority group having limited opportunities in places of employment which then leads to low incomes for the people in the group and as a result poor housing, health care and a deprivation to other opportunities. It as well limits the contribution of the people from the inferior group, destroys their self confidence and limits them from achieving their potential. One of the current issues that reinforce oppression and discrimination in the context of institutional racism is social learning and conformity which entails the social environment of the institution.As the paper discusses people in institutions for instance institutions of higher learning have values which are internalized, as people experience different socialization agents available in the institution and the community. When new students join the institution of higher learning, they acquire the existing practices through social interactions and if these practices are discriminative they also end up being discriminative. The socialization agents lead to people’s acquisition of the perceived attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. People may therefore learn to be discriminative and oppressive through socialization processes such as modeling, internalization, and reward and punishment.

The absence of a labor party, weak labor unions and fragmented governmental systems etc are often mentioned as the evidences of institutional racism in America.
Personal racism refers to the way racist feelings and actions are expressed by different individuals.Personal Racism is the expression of racist attitudes or behaviors by individual people (Newman 168).
The author states that under white supremacy, people belonging to the white race are considered as superior, they are able to secure higher positions and positions with much authority as compared to the positions offered to non-whites. Due to their access to authoritative positions, they have more access to favorable resources such as education and wealth.
This racism is not only confined within the socio- economically backward section of the population but has crept into various strata of the society and institutions, no matter private or public, are no exceptions. If educational institutions are taken into account in a first world country like Canada we find a support to this view.
Racism serves to both discriminate against ethnic minorities and to maintain advantages and benefits for majorities. Some examples of racism are obvious, such as graffiti, ethnic "jokes", or physical violence. Unfortunately, problems of racism are often ignored because people do not know how to deal with them.
There would only be approximately two percent of tenured faculties that may be dismissed in a typical year. It is extremely difficult to get fired from being tenure and equally as difficult to become tenure. The probationary period to achieve tenure is estimated to be approximately three years for community colleges and seven years at four-year colleges or universities.
The term 'Institutional Racism' was introduced by Carmichael and Hamilton in 1968 and they saw it as 'an analytical tool to examine how institutions can operate along racist lines without acknowledging or even recognising this.'
Institutional Racism is connected with organisations and institutions and is unconnected with individualistic views or behaviour.
