In 2014, there were 35 death executions in 7 states, this was less that those executed in 2013, and these executions add the number to about 13000 legal executions since the colonial times. This shows that the number of death executions keeps on reducing as the years go on.
Past researches done in relation to the topic generally show that the method is unethical and does not work, death penalty as per the past researches is discriminative to the minorities, poor, and members of ethnic, racial, and religious communities. The purpose of this research paper is to define capital punishment more, give its impacts on the society either, and explain the unethical part of this punishment. The research paper will show the advantages and the disadvantages related to the death penalty and why a ban is the most efficient solution (Hood, p.340)
In capital justice, also known as the death penalty a person is legally put to death by the state as a form of punishment for his or her crimes. The crimes that result in this kind of sentence are known as capital offenses or capital crimes, most societies in the past practiced capital punishment as the method of punishment for those who commit crimes. This method of punishment was for religious and political dissidents and the criminals. In the past, torturing was one of the key components in this kind of penalty; the executions were mainly in public. Currently, some countries still use the death sentence as a method of punishment while others do not, statistics show that 58 countries still use this method; they actively practice death penalty as a mode of punishment. Those countries that do not impose the death sentence on the criminals mainly impose life prison sentence to the criminals.
