Sociology Response 10: Minority Women In the discussion written by Samantha Guiterrez, she argues about how Malveaux reinforces gender stereotypes citing basketball as one of the many sports with such problems. According to Malveaux, gender stereotypes are still enforced despite having women in all fields, whether in sports, sciences or businesses (Andersen & Hill-Collins, 2013). I agree with Guiterrez’s views on how women are viewed and stereotyped. For example, she mentions that all women do is to ask how they can become irresistible to rich basketball players and only look forward to taking their money.

For example, today there are many women who are in the fields of business, law and engineering, yet only a few of them get the opportunity to be presidents or scientists. This clearly illustrates that even though most societies are advancing, few of them still want their women to have successful careers either due to cultural beliefs or stereotypes. Most of Guiterrez’s answers to the questions are right. She provides detailed answers to the questions which makes it easier for one to understand her views.

In addition, she has used in-text references and a one main reference at the end of the paper, to support her arguments. In the second discussion by Maria Garcia, she has used in-text references to support her views. However, there is a problem. For example, there are three different in-text references used in the discussion, but all of them are not properly referenced. This makes it difficult for any reader to know where she got her ideas. One thing that I liked particularly about her discussion is the way that she answered her questions.

For example, in the second question she provides several illustrations to support her views which I believe are true. For example, she mentions that the army tends to focus on recruiting the minorities because they know most are either jobless or looking for more money. Hence, being in the army not only allows some of them to be free from their parents, but financially stability. This is one of the many ways that Garcia uses illustrations to support her views.ReferenceAndersen, M. L., & Hill-Collins, P. (2013). Race, class and gender: An Anthology (8th ed.).
