The country has over 22 provinces, two special administrative regions, four directly administered municipalities, and five autonomous regions, Hong Kong being one of the special administrative regions. Hong Kong was colonized by the British Empire during the opium war but at the time of Pacific war, Hong Kong became under the Japan’s rule (Metzger, 2004 pg. 118).
