My mother owns a business in Macau. It is a small island popular for its casinos. The nation also boasts various and delicious foods, thrilling shops, and five star hotels. I have observed my mother’s expertise on how she runs her casino. Every now and then, I visited her establishment and had learning occurrences. I admire her entrepreneurial aptitude in dealing with difficulties like emergency maintenances, preventing theft, facilitating employees, balancing assets, as well as liabilities, and accommodating customers.

For instance, I have noticed how she makes it a point to conserve energy. During the clean-up in the daytime, only compulsory lights need to be switched on. In addition, since hundreds of tourists visit the island, the casino needs to cater to the variety of factors that fuel the business. I have seen various people from different cultures. Actually, many of the residents are not Chinese. The rich and unique way of life of the tourists inspired me to know more about the different societies across the globe.

My reflections led me to the conclusion that culture ultimately affects individual’s lives. It has a lot of influence on intelligence, characteristics, diet, economy, and many more. Thus, to study about culture can help me cognize people from other lands. Furthermore, I have observed how a certain business enterprise such as a casino affects the society. Understandably, there are negative and positive effects. Some of the disadvantages are devaluation of family life, addiction to gambling, and failing grades.

Players may spend more time in the casinos that in their homes. This makes them spend lesser time with their loved ones. Similarly, when individuals view casinos as a permanent part of lifestyle rather than a form of recreation, unhealthy behavioral patterns ensue. Since students may get addicted to gambling in casinos, it is undeniable that they may lose focus on their education. On the other hand, the benefits are mainly on the economic side. For instance, I have seen a number of patrons and employers give sources of living to numerous workers.

Since Macau has become a famed gambling destination, improvement in infrastructures has become apparent. The aforementioned thoughts have made me realize the importance of Sociology as a science. Being able to appreciate and empathize with different groups of people is very important in the context of learning how to be useful for the society I am living in and achieving personal fulfillment. This science emphasizes the interdependent roles of the aspects in each territory. All in all, majoring in Sociology can help me become a better person.

Personal Statement 2 I enjoy sports. Engaging in active activities makes me hone my physical aspect. My hobbies include soccer and kickboxing. These dynamic sports have helped me in healthily channeling stress into productive avenues. However, the interest that mostly reflects my passion is my advanced piano skills. I have started learning piano at a young age. Like others, the process took much consistency and practice. I feel that this accomplishment has done a lot to improve my personality.

My piano lessons have helped me in school. This has been particularly true during my childhood. My background in notes, tone familiarity, and finger dexterity has aided in various tasks. Until now, I can apply some of its benefits such as being able to listen well to class lectures.
