Research shows that over seven hundred college basketball programs are handled by NCAA which approximates to over fifty thousand students are offered a chance to play while going to college (NCAA, 2015).
However, a worrying trends and realization is that the college student’s basketball players are not paid despite the various teams accruing huge profits (Jessop, 2015). NCAA uses rules and protocols stipulated in their website to conduct its business but still the trend is worrying (Rosner & Shropshire, 2004). College basketball players in the NCAA division 1 pacific 12 conference should be paid. This will motivate them and even assist them in their daily wants that can contribute positively to their games and health status. There are many reasons that have brought about this lack of payment despite the teams following NCAA rules. First, the teams have high expenditure rates leaving none or little to pay college basketball players. The expenditures are broken down into scouts and coaches travels in finding new recruits and recruiting new players. They travel by air, get their accommodation in first class hotels. Thus spend a lot on food, lodgings and travels. In addition, when they are meeting new recruits they also carter for their air travels, food, lodgings and entertainment (Rowland, 2015). These cause huge amounts of money for teams even if they realize profits. In addition to this is that there are unofficial meetings that coaches pout under the team’s budget where they also dine, wine and entertain themselves at the expense of the College basketball players in the NCAA division 1 pacific 12 conference (Moore, 2015).
This is not all, when they have recruited players they also use a lot in the maintenance of the facilities because they always want the best and be seen as the best. The teams do this to put up a social class which will mean they have more sponsors and fans. This also attracts new recruits
