Focusing on the tricks used by capitalism to exploit common people, this movie revolves around a number of distressing yet shrewd practices of capitalist institutions which work as magnets to attract more money to the already prosperous class of the society, thereby ripping off the underprivileged of whatever belongings they are left with.

Moore's take on capitalism is expressed in the movie by saying that Capitalism is an evil and it should not be regulated; instead it should be eliminated to substitute with the better concept of democracy. Michael Moore shocks the audience by setting out to explain the meanings of the phrase 'Dead Peasants' insurance'. He presents Wal-Mart, as a company which does not allow any opportunity of earning to escape and goes beyond ethical limits to achieve accumulation of wealth. Although the revenue of this company is greater than nearly any other company in the world, yet its ugly face is manifested by the fact that it takes insurance policies on its more than three hundred thousand workers without their will, approval or consent.

When a worker passes away, the company makes profit by claiming the insurance policy, keeping all the money to itself and letting the family of the dead rot under the burden of fiscal constraints. So, for a capitalist school of thought, death is a profitable business! This phenomenon of earning from the dead is not limited to Wal-Mart alone. Michael Moore goes further to present a woman whose husband died of malignancy a few years back. The woman's husband was a worker at a bank, from which he was eventually fired, due to his poor health condition.

However, this about-to-die worker was of benefit to the bank; the bank maintained and retained this worker's life insurance policy, earning nearly five million dollars after his death, as insurance claims. Michael Moore dares to present before the audience a number of other facts; facts which are difficult to digest and assimilate. He states that in his childhood, the highest tax paying class was the richest class which is totally in contrast to the current situation. During Ronald Reagan's times a large number of American citizens were fired from their jobs and major corporations made enormous profits.

While the productivity has shown an inclining trend, the wages of workers have been static. Due to the current situation, an alarming increase in individual bankruptcies is taking place, lots of citizens are locked up, healthcare costs have increased and the sales of antidepressant medication have broken all previous records. In the background of these difficult times for a common man lies the fact that a private jet worth $50 million was ordered by Citigroup for use by its top executives. Moreover, according to the sources of FBI, Banks were involved in more than 80% of the mortgage fraud and not the common people asking for loans.
