‘My Neighborhood’ A neighborhood is a community which is geographically confined while inside a larger urban orsuburban locality. The neighborhoods are referred to as social communities in which the participants have one-to-one social interaction as well. Participants of a community are the people who reside in a certain locality. Sociologically, it has several implications because it is directly related to the social life and communal systems. Thus, the term “neighborhood” is an notion which is three-dimensional in order to elucidate its sociological insinuations. The three units of neighborhood are related to sharing the common values, socialising the predecessors and gaining the societal control through creating effective means of communication via frequent communication (Macionis 73). The sociological implicative measure for neighborhood explanation is widespread and pervasive. The common characteristics in a society have lead urban sociology towards neighborhood. Here I am going to elaborate some elucidations about my neighborhood. I live in Woodlawn, MD 21207. Woodlawn, in fact, is an unincorporated community which is designated by census in Baltimore County in United States of America. According to the census report of 2010, the population of the area is 37,879. It is well known for a lot of medical centers and head quarters of Social Security Administration (SSA). The borders of Baltimore County are conjoined to Catonsville from the south, and from the western side it is connected to River Patapsco and Howard County. Baltimore city is located on the east whereas from the north it is surrounded by Randallstown and Loch Earn. Most of the areas by residents are considered to be the part of Catonsville, especially those that are using the same zip code as Catonsville. Several parts of Woodlawn are referred to as Security, Maryland. It is because of many SSA head quarters are located inside the neighborhood. According to fresh figures of United States Census Bureau, the total area of the locality is 9.6 square miles. The US Census Bureau reports that there were 9,261 household families residing in the Woodlawn containing the total population of 37,897 people. Out of these residents, there are 51.5 per cent African Americans, 38.40 per cent are white Americans, 0.30 per cent are Indian (Native) Americans, 6.20 per cent are Asian people while remaining 6 per cent belong to other races including Hispanic, Latino, Europeans and many others. The social class demographics may include the income class of the residents. Out of the whole population, 6.3 per cent are below poverty line. The median residing family income is reported to be 48,878 US Dollars. The income per capita (annually) is 21,710 US Dollars. If we look at the infrastructure of the Woodlawn community, it contains several well-known major roads including Dogwood Road, Forest Park Avenue, Gwynn Oak Avenue, Rolling Road, Security Boulevard, Windsor Mill Road and Woodlawn Drive. In the community, there is a volunteer fire company. This company was launched or in 1941 as a civil defense unit for the society. In the beginning, it started its operations on minute level while with the passage of time, it grew by leaps and bounds, and now it is considered as a well-known fire company which was voluntarily brought in to existence. This company is now comprised of 26 careers (paid job opportunities) and 33 volunteer companies. There are a number of celebrities and actors who currently reside in the community. They include John Austin, Kevin Clash, Robert Cur beam, Jr., Darren Flutie, Tracy Ham, Kevin Liles, Mo 'Nique, Nancy Travis, Chris Dixon, etc. In terms of sociology, neighborhoods are expedient and always assessable. The successful neighborhoods need specialised technical skills as well as money. It may be possible that it might require money for capital or operational expenditure for socialisation purpose. For example, the case of volunteer fire company within the premises of the Woodlawn Community. This community is well-known because of several reasons. One of the top reasons is the feasibility of living in the area. There is a diverse community of residents in my neighborhood. It is an overall picture which provides a lucid picture of Woodlawn. The exact place where I reside in the community is Woodlawn, MD 21207. It comes exactly on the definition of the neighborhood urbanised community provided in the context of sociology. It explains that it must possess the relationships and better communication between the individuals of the community. The residents and participants of my neighborhood are well-mannered and frequently communicate with each other. In order to judge the social connections among the people, there are several societies which are formed to increase the prosperity level of the Woodlawn. The poor are provided with social and moral needs such that they might not feel inferior in comparison with the other prosper ones. The more it is concerned in the sociological prospective, the more it seems to be on the stream of actions under the current debate. The neighborhoods are basically implied in the terms of ranges of social procedures. The social procedures (conflict, prosperity, logistics, communication, etc) are the key elements which are nearly unincorporated within each and every society (Macionis, 88). From my point of view, the overall sociological definition of the socialisation and community is quite hypothetical where we assume certain limitations as well. Those limitations are not found according to the marked standard in reality. So, it is difficult or sometimes even impossible to identify which of the central themes is in accordance with the theoretical terminologies. The more concerns towards social responses are narrated in several of the sociological texts and guides. These are generally amplified in organisational settings rather than in informal social and community settings. However, I rate my neighborhood on a mediocre level, that is, I think there is a collaborative approach, social prosperity thinking and effective conflict resolution process.
