Within such an understanding, the analysis that the documentary “Sick Around the World” was able to provide was concentric upon the way in which different cultures, nations, and governmental systems integrated with an appreciation and provision of healthcare. Within such a way, the documentary helps to explain the way in which provision of healthcare helps to achieve a degree of environmental justice as well as social construction (Wallace 84). Moreover, the analysis also points to the fact that culture plays a vital role in determining whether a group of individuals, in the form of a government and society, will integrate with a more social model of healthcare or whether the model will be more free market-based. With regards to the macro sociological perspectives that can be seen in the film, these ultimately hinged upon whether or not society at large should accept a degree of responsibility for the health and well-being of its members or whether or not the respective members of society should take this upon themselves as a fundamental requirement (Siegel 285). Such a question has been illustrated throughout the text and has also been illustrated throughout the course of human society and civilization as individuals are always seeking to understand and define their relationship to one another and what if any responsibilities they may have as a function of being a part of society. More specifically, seeking to understand some of the theories that it been presented within the coursework within the given case in question, the reader can come to the understanding that symbolic interactionism best defines the micro level as individuals seek to define their role within society and with regards to one another whereas conflict theory represents the macro approach (Avitzur 20). Finally, with regards to whether or not this particular reviewer was able to gain a degree of insight from the film in question, the answer to this is a definitive yes. Whereas individuals within the United States oftentimes comes the understanding that their life experience and reality is somehow indicative of the world at large, the fact of the matter is that individuals from around the globe live vastly different lives than do stakeholders of the American experience (Healthcare Report 5). In many ways, the experience that is exhibited around the globe is worse and it many ways it is better. In such a way, it would be the aim and intent of this viewer to recommend such a documentary to others as a means of better understanding some of the current conflicts and debates that surround the issue of healthcare (Binstock 81). The past several decades have witnessed an increased awareness with regards to the impacts that humans have upon the environment. Regardless of what specific situation one chooses to analyze this relationship from, the invariable take away that is gained is that human activities impact upon the way in which natural processes occur in the overall health of the planet as a whole. From the conflict theory, the individual researcher comes to the understanding that environmental damage and harm is done solely out of the fact that each and every member of society seeks to benefit themselves and create a further level of economic wealth. However, from a functionalist perspective the social interaction and roles that individuals play within ...Show more
