The findings of the study will enhance future preparedness of governments in dealing with Down syndrome challenges. To achieve the objective of determining the Prevalence of Down Syndrome among Children and Adolescents, in 10 Regions of the United States From 1979 to 2003, research annual data was obtained from American Obstetrics of Gynecology and subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistics (Booth 177). The descriptive statistics used to analyze the data include the use of frequency and percent, presented in tables and charts.

The inferential statistics used include the use of Pearson product moment correlation and one sample t test to determine whether there is a significant relationship between Down syndrome and age. The use of one sample t test was attributed to the nature of the data since, it had only one continuous dependent variable and categorical independent variable with no more than two values, the t-test was used to determine the significant of Down syndrome and mother age (Brunner and Cheever 288). Pearson product moment correlation aimed at exhibiting the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two variables, depending on the level of measurement.

Pearson product-moment coefficient was used because the data was designed for interval level (continuous) variables. In order to realize the objectives of the study, the Statistical Package for the Social scientist (Version 19) was used to analyze the data and the findings used to describe and make inferences on the relationship between Down syndrome and mother’s age. The Prevalence of Down Syndrome among Children and Adolescents in 10 Regions of the United States From 1979 to 2003 was determined using a graphical line graph as shown in the figure below.

The Prevalence of Down Syndrome among Children and Adolescents showed that there was an increase in DS at birth per 10,000
