Extract of sample "Prevalence of Internet among Aged"

The questionnaire is used in the research study to identify the needs and preferences of older members of the population to use the internet to develop a new product that will assist them. 1. Do you consider yourself an older member of the population? (A.)YES (B.)NO 2. Do you know of the existence of the Internet? (A.)YES (B.)NO 3. On a scale of 1-10, how well do you know how to use the internet as a medium of communication? Please explain how you communicate via the Internet. 4. How efficient is the use of the internet in communication as opposed to other forms of communication you know? (A.)VERY EFFICIENT (B.)BETTER (C.)GOOD (D.)HECTIC 5. On a scale of 1-5, how fast is the use of the internet to communicate compared to other means? b.) I would prefer face-to-face interviewing of the interviewers.   . It also enhances the interviewer's ambiance; making use of standardization of the situation. c.) Other methods that could be used: 1. Telephone interview 2. Posting the questionnaires through the post offices 3. Use of mail Advantages of the use of questionnaires: The use of questionnaires ensures there are already formulated questions that require responses, thus reducing time wastage during the interview. These formulated questions are quite clear about the type of response that is required. Apart from the questionnaire being practical, a large amount of data collected within a short duration of time makes this method relatively cost-efficient. It can also be carried out by anyone with limited research analysis knowledge. On the disadvantaged part, with the use of questionnaires, it is not possible to determine the level of the truthiness of the information they give and how much the respondent thought has put (Spurr & Bonini 1973, 156). In some cases, the respondent may miss interpreting the question thereby, giving an irrelevant response. 2.  15,10,19,22,21,12,7,15,16,8,18,19,24,29,19,18,13,32,18,11 i.) Arithmetic mean=(15+10+19+22+21+12+7+15+16+8+18+19+24+29+19+18+13+32+18+11)/20 =346/20=17.3 ii.)  7,8,10,11,12,13,15,15,16,18,18,18,19,19,19, 21, 22,24,29,32 Median=18+18/2=18 iii.) ¼(346) =86.5 iv.)  ¾(346) =259.5   a.) i.) Standard deviation=∑ (xi-Arithmetic mean)2/n-1, where n is the number of observations. =((7-17.3)2+ (8-17.3)2+….+(32-17.3)2/20)^1/2 =((-10.3)2+ (-9.3)2+….+ (11.7)2+(14.7)2/20)^1/2 =6.2777   ii.) Range=maximum entry – minimum entry        =32-7        =25 iii.) Interquatile range= Upper quartile – lower quartile            =259.5-86.5            =173 b.) Standard deviation is the inverse of precision. A low standard deviation indicates that the data points tend to be very close to their arithmetic mean whereas a high standard deviation indicates that the data points are spread out over a large range of values (Barra & Herbach 1980, 45). The standard deviation of company A tends to cluster around the mean as opposed to the standard deviation of company B; hence larger standard deviation implies lower precision. 3a.) Differences In Rural And Urban Access To Amenities  In most countries, more than 50% of the urban population has access to these social amenities; generally, there seems to be more access to the amenities in urban compared to rural apart from Gambia where the reverse is justified but by marginal difference.     b.) Differences Between Water And Sanitation Access Across The Region  There seems to be more access to drinking water in the countries concerned compared to access to improved sanitation.   c.) The development agency should target the rural area part of West Africa. This is because almost half of this population has no access to improved drinking water. All West African countries except for maybe Gambia should be issued with priority. d.) Secondary data. Disadvantages of using secondary data 1. One has less control over how the data was collected. 2. There may be biases in the data that you don’t know about 3. Its answers may not exactly fit one’s research questions 4. In some cases, it is very expensive.   4a.)    Mean=43, upper quartile=68, lower quartile=27, Inter-quartile range=68-27=41   b.)    Mean=41, upper quartile=86, lower quartile=25, Inter-quartile range=86-25=61 b.) There seem to be more sales of goods H for weekly sales over 80 compared to goods J. There are more goods in both the upper and lower quartile range of goods J compared to goods H. c.) Proportion of product H under £4,000=18/88 Proportion of product H between£ 4,000 and £8,000=52/88 The proportion of product H above £8,000=18/88      . The proportion of product J under£ 4,000=38/88 Proportion of product J between£ 4,000 and£ 8,000=40/88 The proportion of product J above£ 8,000=8/88   d.) P (both Products H and J having sales over £7,000)=15/88*6/88=90/7744=0.01162  e.)Probability that, in any given week, product H would have sales in either the under £3,000 or over £8000 range? P(Product H sales under£ 3,000)=8/88=1/11=0.09091 P(Product H sales over£ 8,000)=18/88=9/44=0.2045 P(Product H sales under£ 3,000) OR P(Product H sales over 8,000)=8/88+18/88=26/88=13/44=0.29541 Read More
