Data like videos, pictures, music, information and voice can be transferred easily between the two paired devices over a short distance and that to within seconds. Wireless signals transmitted by Bluetooth cover short distances up to 30 feet. These signals communicate less than 1 Mega Byte per second (1 Mbps).
The SIG group felt that the name Bluetooth was befitting because they used the same concept like King Bluetooth. Bluetooth technology has the ability to unite different industries like the mobile phone, computing and automotive industries.
IrDA is another wireless communication technology with certain beneficial features. However, it has sizable disadvantages. Bluetooth scores over IrDA in those aspects as well as other additional features. At the same time, Bluetooth has certain disadvantages as well, but those limitations can be managed.
