HSA 520 – Health Information Systems Introduction Technology has of late been of great use in healthcare industry. Moreover, it has been embraced in electronic health records keeping, computerized diagnosis of diseases. Similarly, consultation on health matters by patients has been given an upper hand by advancement in technology (Menachemi & Singh, 2012). Most Significant new technology requirement for health care industry Skilled personnel and advanced structural infrastructure is among the essential requirements, which include well trained and selfless health care providers, and a smooth coordination between the public and health care providers. Additionally, other skilled personnel required are the engineers, information analysts among others. Appropriate and adequate structural infrastructure is a crucial requirement for new technology (Tan & Payton, 2010). For instance, rooms for accommodating inpatients and essentially fully equipped health care training institution. Appropriate means of transport such as ambulances and special planes are essential. Consequently, good transport infrastructures like roads and railways are essential. Sufficient capital is yet another fundamental new technology requirement. Investment in a new technology is usually an expensive affair. Both liquid cash and capital goods are required. The capital goods include machinery to aid in provision of health care services. Cash is required for paying the health care providers and buying medication. Strategic planning and analysis of the health care industry is a noble requirement for new technology. Before embracing new technology goals and ways of achieving them need to be identified. Consequently, the tools for achieving these goals should be identified. This is important for proper budgeting before investing in a new technology. Approach of implementing new technology requirement The health care providers should undertake thorough training and research on new technology in healthcare provision and management. Health providers should ensure that appropriate and efficient infrastructure compatible to the new technology is introduced in the industry. Additionally, health providers should train the public on health issues. Health care providers should develop strategic planning and analysis of the entire healthcare industry as this gives a gist of what is expected of them. Proper planning and thorough analysis of the industry will ensure that every healthcare provider directs their force towards achieving the set goals and objectives. Health care providers should source capital from various sectors to aid in funding the project. Everyone should be called upon to give their support. Fund can also be sourced from international bodies. Technology underlying health care information systems and the pressing need for technological innovation/modification According to Tan & Payton (2010), basic technology underlying health care information include; electronic medical record keeping, computerized accounting systems. Computerized management is also another engagement. Winter et al., (2011) argues that, with increased number of health related problems and mass activates done by healthcare providers, means for simplifying work ought to be devised. This has pressed for innovation and modification in the way information is recorded and stored. The changes and complexity in the way of life is inflicting a lot of pressure on improving storage and acquisition of health care information. Innovation has assisted in invention of new and efficient means. As a matter of facts, the number of competent health care providers is much lower compared to patients. Therefore, Health care providers require easy access of patient information to serve more people. Consequently, easy access of health information is necessary for quick referencing. This can only be possible through adopting new means of information storage. This can be facilitated through innovation (Menachemi & Singh, 2012). Some errors evident in health care medication such as incorrect dosage prescription can be avoided by inventing efficient system. This presses for a need to develop efficient systems which are able to order for correct and right dosage. This eliminates the incidences of errors, which can only be possible through innovation. Apparently, diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and other health related complication have recently developed where existing systems may be inappropriate for handle. This calls for modification of the existing system to cope with the changes. Additionally, innovations need to be reinforced by the state and other stakeholders through introduction of new systems. This will facilitate development of systems to handle emerging issues in heath care. For instance, it is through innovation that kidney and heart transplant came in to force (Tan & Payton, 2010). Recommendations and improvement of overall level of health care in a community Training of the work force and educating the community on health care matters will enhance quality in service provision. This becomes beneficial to workers since new and advanced skills are acquired for handling both current and emerging issues. The health providers will stand a better position to offer better services. Additionally educating the community on health matters such as hygiene will reduce risk of certain ailments. Investment on research about healthy nutrition that is affordable. In addition physical exercise should be encouraged. Some ailments are as a result of poor nutrition and lack of exercise for example obesity and cancer. Innovation on healthy and nutritious diets will be of great importance. This will aid in eliminating nutrition related health problems in the community. Health care providers and local hospitals should initiate campaigns on proper and pocket friendly diets. Modern health care facilities, such as x-rays and life support machines should be introduced in the community health care center .This will help in treatment of special ailments and surgery. Health education should be introduced in all learning institution. This will increase awareness on health care matters. Additionally, necessary resources should also be provided for reinforcing student innovation. Given the necessary resources and motivation, students can help in educating the local masses on health issues. Key action that senior health care leadership could take to push the boundaries for information technology The senior health care leadership should promote health care education throughout the community. This is to ensure ignorance is eliminated. This will give room for adoption of new information technology such as use of phone and internet in conveying health care information. The senior leadership should adopt electronic health record keeping easing assessment of progress (Menachemi & Singh, 2012). Also electronic accounting should be adopted to ease the accessibility of financial information by various departments. Effects of improved health care technology Apparently, improvement of health care technology creates convenience and easy access to health care service and information from any place (Winter et al., 2011). For this reason, technology facilitates medical attention without visiting the doctor’s premises. Consequently, it is possible to access health care information via the internet and other related sources. Another effect of improvement in health care technology is reduced cost of medication. Basically, people need not to travel for long distance seeking health related advices since transport cost is reduced. As a result, consulting doctors online is relatively cheap compared to visiting their place of work. Conclusion The health care industry has largely benefited from improvement in technology. Hence, technology has brought health care service to the convenience of the public. The mode of operation in the industry has been simplified. References: Tan, J & Payton, F. (2010).
