Wildlife tourism involves making trips to different destinations, locally or internationally, in order to increaseone’s understanding and see a wide range of flora and fauna without bringing any harm to the natural environment. The people who are involved in these wildlife trips are called tourists and they are motivated by the beauty of the natural features, the serenity and the in depth knowledge derived from watching flora and fauna. I’m interested in wildlife tourism in Scotland because I love travelling and observing different kinds of natural phenomenon on this planet. However, I have never been on a wildlife tour in the United kingdom and through advertisements and various wildlife magazines, I have come to realise that Scotland offers the most breath-taking aspects of wildlife tourism in the country. Visiting Scotland as I investigate the various kinds of flora and fauna present, will give me insight into what the United Kingdom has to offer wildlife tourists. I am also a wildlife enthusiast and the beauty of wildlife in Scotland captivated me and I need to record and photograph the different species of wildlife that the beautiful country has to offer. Travelling through Scotland will also help me achieve a milestone in my personal goals as I have always wished to visit this country after reading about the vast beauty of the land. Every country provides an array of unique features whether in its wildlife or in it landscape. I want to find out the unique wildlife species that Scotland
has, name them, photograph them and put them in my wildlife photo album. The trip will also serve as a means of familiarising myself with the aspects of wildlife in Scotland. A wildlife tourist does not visit a wildlife habitat once; therefore, this trip will serve as a reconnaissance mission to help me gather enough information so as to prepare myself for the ultimate wildlife visit in Scotland. Nature of research The research will mostly be observational where I will seek to gather knowledge about the different species of flora and fauna found in the highlands and islands in Scotland, by observing them. The tour guides and officers from Scotland’s national tourism organisation will be interviewed to provide guidelines and more information on the subject. I will seek to find the best parks to visit in Scotland, places to stay, amount of money needed to cover a low budget trip and the best places for highland safaris. The research will alsoseek information on the appropriate time to hold events such as bird watching because there are so many different kinds of birds and every country features unique birds from the others. Justification of the research As stated earlier, I usually document the unique wildlife to a certain country or region; therefore, this research will help document Scotland’s unique wildlife. The research will also help increase my knowledge base and provide an enjoyable activity that would forever be embedded in my mind. Scotland is a favourite destination place for wildlife tourists, but the best parks or places to visit for different species of flora and fauna, are not widely known. I want to find out the exact areas where an individual can find certain wildlife, thus making it easier for me to find my way around, the next time I visit the country for a wildlife tour. I read that wildlife tourism contributes immensely to the economy of Scotland and I would also like to participate. Research methods This section focuses on the research methods to be used and sources of data and availability.
