According to Jog (2011), the current airport is reaching exhaustion, as it is not able to accommodate more than 30 million passengers annually. Thus strategies have been formulated to either use this airport more efficiently or construct a new one. The research focuses on the development and feasibility of the new airport Navi Mumbai Airport as the project has been delayed and still hasn’t been started because of many underlying issues yet the current airport is running at over capacity because of these delays. The research analyses the reasons for the delays, the benefits that they may bring to the economy, and the problems that they may cause to society. The airport project is very critical to the Indian economy as the future of the country, directly and indirectly, depends on it. If travelling to Mumbai is easy, then more business will come into the country, however, as per Shukla (2010) if it is difficult then business growth may be affected and then, in turn, the economic conditions of the country will be affected in the future.

Moreover, the site of the project is questionable and so is the capacity yet the government is overlooking both to go ahead with the project. The problem is to understand why the government is doing so at the expense of the environment and displacement of 65000 people especially when the size of the new airport will be small, as its capacity will be exhausted within 25 years.
1.4 Aims of the Research

-Is making a new airport essential or can the capacity of the old be increased with efficient usage?
-The second aim is to see whether the new project will be worth it for the economy or not or will it be benefitting only a select few. ...Download file to see next pages Read More
