New Events at Herrington Country Park al Affiliation New Events at Herrington Country Park Herrington Country Park is one of the mostrenowned parks in Sunderland. In Sunderland, Herrington Country Park being one of the largest parks in Sunderland holds many events. The park offers several picnic sites, nature walks as well as cycle trails. Other activities that are characterized by Herrington Country Park include the Sunderland Festivals, National Cross Country Championships as well as “The Race for Life” events (Jackson, 2013). There are several environmental sculptures in the site thereby playing the role of creation of environmental awareness to the visitors of the park. In addition, the park provides a good space for children entertainment as well as an ample space for open air concerts for most parts of the North East of Sunderland (Hoyle, 2002). Based on the possibility of the Herrington Country Park to host a myriad of events, this paper is going to propose and explore the possibilities of the park to host other new events. On this basis, the paper is going to present wedding events as a new type of events that should be hosted by Herrington Country Park. Weddings are the most cherished events by many people around the world. Wedding events always need to be conducted in pristine as well as serene environments (Jones, 2008). They always need to be conducted in places that have aesthetic values as well as beautiful environmental backgrounds. Wedding events always need places with cool atmospheres, spaciousness and lots of natural freshness. In this regard, it is always critical to conduct wedding events in such places where recreation activities are available. Herrington Country Park offers the best environment that meets all the above descriptions for a wedding event. However, it is critical to note that there are several issues that may present big challenges towards staging the wedding events in such an environment (Hoyle, 2002). One of the difficulties in staging such events is inadequacy of finances. This may limit a number of operations in the planning and management of the event. In addition, site zoning problems may also affect the successful staging of the wedding events in the park. This may be a problem if an experienced and well trained personnel in event management was neither consulted nor hired. This may present staging challenges. Marketing the Wedding Event at the Park However, it is critical to note that Herrington Country Park is an ideal place to hold wedding events. For the success of the park to hold wedding evens, there are several ways that people can be informed. The wedding events in the Herrington Country Park can be marketed and promoted in several ways. One of the ways in which wedding events can be marketed for the Herrington Country Park is through the use of television (Shone & Parry, 2004). The Herrington Country Park management team should mainstream several programmes in the television that act to inform the public of the new events that are hosted by the park. The use of television is one of the best ways to use for advertising the wedding events in Herrington Country Park. This should also involve running several documentaries of successful wedding events that have taken place in the park. This helps to inform the public of the benefits associated with green wedding at the Herrington Country Park. Several people always view their television (Jackson, 2013). The use of television may be a good move to sell the wedding events to the local as well as to the international markets relevant to the park. This is important in creation of even more tourism activities to the place. Other than the use of television advertisements, the other way to employ in marketing wedding events at the park may include the use of posters as well as informative banners (Jackson, 2013). This is very critical in enlightening the public concerning the new events hosted by the park. The use of posters as well as banners can be very critical and beneficial since it may help convey the message to the individuals who do not own television sets in their houses (Jones, 2008). On the other hand, the use of awareness campaigns as well as public forums should also be used in marketing the wedding events at the park. This is very critical in informing the public about the new events hosted by the park. This is important in creation of more opportunities for local tourism as well as gain revenues too (Jones, 2008). The other way in which the events can be marketed is through the use of newspapers, magazines as well as newsletters. Several people always read newspapers and magazines. Therefore, incorporation of the news of new events at the park is highly likely to reach several people. This creates more opportunities for more customers. Newspapers are some of the effective tools for marketing new products since they are educative and informative (Shone & Parry, 2004). Wedding events in the Herrington Country Park will also be marketed through the use of social media. Social media presents a large customer base due to the fact that several people are subscribed to the different social media (Jackson, 2013). The use of social media will be very effective in marketing the events in the park due to the fact that it is easy and fast to use. It takes very short time for the message to be conveyed. Again, interacting with the customers will be made easier through the use of social media. Reasons for choosing wedding events There are several reasons that led to the choice of wedding as the new events that should be offered by the park. One of the reasons is the promotion of tourism activities. Wedding events are forms of local tourism. This is likely to bring more revenue to the country that strengthens the economy. Wedding activities are always less demanding on space as compared to other activities like cycling. Therefore, wedding events should be considered by the park. Moreover, wedding events are considered sacred thus needs pristine and sacred places to be conducted (Hoyle, 2002). The park is an ideal place for green wedding. Hosting such wedding events is a big milestone in championing environmental awareness, preservation and protection campaigns. These events should be attended by people of all age groups. Children should attend such events due to the ample playing grounds present at the park. Adults should also attend such events in order to familiarize themselves with nature as well as have a feel of nature. This creates tourism as well thereby earning income (Shone & Parry, 2004). The parts of the park to use for the event It is important to note that wedding events always need spacious environments. The ideal site for the wedding in the park should also have remarkable background vicinity that should be suitable for shooting photographs during wedding proceedings (Jackson, 2013). The environment should also be cool and serene to promote comfort and ensure success of the proceedings of the event. The image below shows the idea site within the park where wedding events should be carried out. Image 1: Image showing the ideal part within the park for holding wedding events The image above shows the remarkable background with beautiful sceneries that is ideal for shooting photographs during wedding events. The environment looks serene as well as very cool for holding wedding events. This site also provides suitable background vicinity that anybody may desire to take a photograph (Wale, 2010). It also presents an ideal site for recreation thereby making it the most suitable site for holding wedding events in the Herrington Country Park. Environmental impacts of using this location for wedding events It is important to note that several impacts may be associated with wedding events relevant to the environment. The first environmental impacts associated with the wedding events to the park wil include environmental pollution. This may be disastrous to the aesthetic value of the park as well as to the biodiversity within the park. There are three main forms of environmental pollution that may be associated with wedding events. These include solid wastes, liquid wastes as well as air pollution. These forms of pollution are major environmental stressors (Wale, 2010). Solid pollution may emanate from the plastics as well as other solid wastes used by the wedding attendants. These may be thrown aimlessly on the environment thereby giving it a bad look. Such solid wastes may make the health of the environment to deteriorate of not attended to appropriately. Liquid wastes may involve the oil spills from the vehicles. Air pollution may involve the noise from the vehicles, the children playing as well as the public address systems used (Jackson, 2013). This can lead to environmental stress. Pros and cons of the wedding events It is important to note that there are several advantages associated with wedding events. Holding wedding events in Herrington Country Park will lead to increased incidences of tourism activities. These are very important in generation of income, foreign exchange as well as contribution to the revenue generation (Wale, 2010). This is very critical since it leads to strengthening of the economy. The other benefit is that the event will lead to promotion of environmental preservation and conservation. This is critical in ensuring a healthy environment. Moreover, the promotion of green wedding is important since it makes people to identify with nature as a form of recreation activity (Wale, 2010). However, the cons associated with wedding event are that it may lead to environmental degradation. This is due to the solid wastes involving plastics and polythene bags left at the site when the event is over. These may lead to environmental stresses thereby contributing to deterioration of the environmental health. Bibliography HOYLE, L. H.
