Art History The definition of art is a controversial one regarding the fact that it has experienced different changes. This means that as it develops, a different definition comes to topic. The main reason for the change in definition could be that there are different forms and types of art. Historically, the definitions can be defined under traditional or modern. Ideas about this definitions change as time goes by and as the category of art becomes better. Historians use art s a way to express their ideas in all of the history it is known for. In the past decades, original forms of arts were created for the purpose of communicating history. Some of the historians do to view recent art as real art. This is, because, art changes in art are a convention. It is said so, because, art is radically and gradually changing that they cannot note art as it used to be. New artists as seen in the books are viewed like they would not understand old arts. The sculpture called Brillo Box that was created by Andy Warhol would not be understood in recent art. Some of the arts would be looked at as incomprehensible due to their complicated nature. Artwork is believed to be a stylish class of expressing ideas rooted in the mind of an artist. As a consideration, visual arts is the most common and it is seen in many cultures in a effort to explain the culture of that particular place. As the creators of arts, artists are the most involved in challenging the definition of art with their new ideas. Arts are revolving but language is also evolving. This means that it exists in different definitions. It depends on the understanding of an individual. At some point, it is seen as a therapeutically process. It could be with corrective or treatment aim that involves painting. The process can be satisfying or frustrating for an individual depending on a person’s interest. The end product is the part that will produce an exhibition of the art. Therefore it can be considered as the process of creating in a secondary manner. It still does nit change that it is a non verbal form of communication that aims at stating the objective or purpose. This type of art is defined to produce certain changes in the personality of an individual (Preziosi 45). Aesthetics is a form of art that is connected to contemporary arts. Contemporary arts describe painting to posses two definitions which could be rated as inspirational (aesthetic) of craft. This means that it is an inspiration to create something beautiful. All this should be stated behind the mind of an artistic personality. The real definition of aesthetics reveals that it is a form of philosophy that deals with beauty, taste and art. Appreciation and creation of beauty should also come along in the definition for it to be complete. Scholars in the field define it as critical definition of art and beauty that comprises f nature and culture. Aesthetics can be traced back to pre-historic arts that were done in ancient arts. Since then, it underwent a slow revolution as it is considered the philosophy of art. Most artists in this field believed that beauty is a factor that should be disclosed as an inner sense hence a subjective fact. William Hogarth believed that it consists of many attributes including fitness of some of its part into the design system. By the beginning of the 18thcentury, art had a totally different meaning. It revolved around pursuing a skill that was directed to the aim of creating taste or a clear production of what is considered beautiful. This is the first time that taste and beauty are mentioned in association with art. Artists like Francoise Bouncher were part of bringing out the taste and elegance in art. By the 19th century, art was aimed at pleasing with beauty as the major object. The relevance in this is that the idea in the art is the center for what is shown in the piece of art. Avant Garde was the brain behind the idea of skills exhibited by an artist. According to him, these skills were for the purpose of providing moral and religious guidance (Preziosi 73). At that time, it changed to salons or exhibitions where different artists would gather to show off their works of art. This saw to the affordability of the arts that were considered for the rich patrons. At this period, the definition of art took a big and significant difference. This was the time that symbolism, expressionism and impressionism were introduced as movements. This was viewed as modernity as it saw to the movement of art to yet another level. Art has changed in content and in manner therefore the definition cannot remain as the one that has been functional. Art has evolved in different dimensions that have improved designs captivated within the mind and skills of an artist (Preziosi 84). Most probably, art has evolved from the actual sense of creativity to a sense of creativity with taste, style and beauty. With this, it is evident that there are different types of art including the human dress code. This implies that the minds of artists have also evolved in huge steps thus changing the whole meaning of art. Though historians could consider modern art as an imitation of art, the conclusion comes to an understanding that art has just evolved. Ideas of the past are presented in a better or a new way. This has therefore changed he whole definition of art. Marcel Duchamp’s “Fountain” and Bruce Naumen’s Fountain are a significant works of art in contemporary art. They show creativity in the hidden meaning of the sculpture. The work of interpreting the sculpture is left to the viewer who will analyse he sculptures. Duchamp created a sculpture of a urinary that was set upside down. As for Naumen, he was not only the artist but also the object. Both arts are an addiction to those who love art, because, they both agree to the intensive goodness of each other’s sculptures. It is a description of construction of ideas within the mind of these artists. Thinking of an idea and making it practical is one of the greatest gifts that an artist could posses. Judging from their fame, they are successful artists whose works could be described as of importance to anyone who can analyze them.
