The paper "Postwar Expressionism and Abstraction" examines postwar expressionism and abstraction. The study also analyzes works of Jackson Pollock. In fact, Pollock met Orozco sometimes in the early 30’s through his friend Thomas Hart Benton. A workshop conducted by Siquieros was attended by Pollock which heavily influenced his style of where he uses loud colors when doing large-scale works such as murals. His style is drip method wherein he splatters and splashes the ends a brush soaked in paint. Moreover, he draws beyond the canvass, making a mess of the floor which serves as his drawing board. At first glance, one would see random lines and splashes only to see in the end that they are all in harmony. Siquieros “El Fin del Mundo” can be compared to that of Pollock’s “Murals” which uses the same technique of experimental materials. Pollock need not a political or controversial issue like Siquieros to express his art. For Jackson Pollock his art is more personal, it is an expression of his grief and losses in life that can be attributed to his being an alcoholic. It was in the middle of the z40s when Pollock introduced his drip method which immediately attracted the attention of the American public since it was unconventional. The drip method defied the conventional use of the easel for painting, instead, stick and stiff brushes were used by Pollock. He uses loud colors when doing large-scale works such as murals.
