He tried to convey the message of freedom during that era (Orton, 1996). His art was basically inspired by the arts of Spanish artists like Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró which he wanted to create a simple type of art expressing his feelings. Convergence painting uses colors, lines, lights and contrasting shapes which look messy but can be said to convey the message of the state of United States during that period when the art was made. Convergence art was accepted by the people during that time this can be seen from his influence in the contemporary United States and also Western Europe.
