Posters have been used as an informative or propaganda means for a very long time. They have been advancing with the advancement in technology. This advancement has been majorly structural and appearance in form of colour and shape but the purpose remains informational conveyance. (b) Introduction: This paper is going to give the full meaning of the term propaganda and its importance in the society. The term propaganda refers to the different means used by media and other informative systems in informing about different emerging issues. These issues might be pertaining to fields such as politics, education, economic development, agricultural field, industrial development, environmental conservation, energy conservation and other lively related fields. The use of propaganda started a long time ago but has been undergoing evolution as technology advances and modernity takes over. In this section, the paper would be giving samples of posters developed with a purpose of informing people about six main fields in human life. This paper would then give a brief explanation as to how these types of posters have undergone structural change as they retain their purpose and theme in human life. Therefore this paper would look at five different posters and the historical context under which each of these posters was created. It would further look at how politics and culture of people has influenced them. In addition to that, the ways in which each poster is set to meet its intended purpose as based on the targeted audience. (c) Different types of posters and the message they convey to the society (a) The poster above is a poster on fighting pollution in the society. It is a hand designed poster as from its look. It is a type of poster that is linked with the 1920s. During this time, the world had undergone less advancement in technological field. When this poster is presented in a new form of the present generation where technology is exclusively used, it would be structurally improved. This structural improvement would be from a hand drawing into a photo taken picture with at least a digital camera recorder. If not in form of a photo, it would take the form of mobile pictures where human being should be associated in the picture. Nowadays, if a poster on fighting pollution should be produced, then it should show an illustration of the effects of pollution on the environment. Culturally, people who are the main preservers of the environment from pollution should also be included. This is the political and cultural effects that politics would have on the poster above. The main reason is to make clear and sure that the theme of the poster is well conveyed to the society which is the intended audience. (b) The above poster is a poster created in the new generation of 21 century with fine artists showing out their talent. It is a politics related politics and that is a reason why the term “HOPE” is included to encourage people on choosing the person on the poster during election (Stromquist, 2008). Therefore, despite the fact that the poster was meant to be coloured, the whitish colour was intentionally put in to show peace and purity. In the new generation where most of the youths are unemployed despite their good talent and thus they require employment opportunities. Therefore, the creation of presidential candidate’s poster by fight art creates employment to whoever does it. This is the effect that the culture and politics has on posters pertaining politics and political leaders. (c) The above poster is a photo poster that is used in educational field that are used to show the evolution in the field of photography. It can be identified that this is a black and white photo poster and this type of poster were being used during the 18th century when digital cameras that could produce coloured photographs and poster were not yet introduced (David, 2009). With time, politics and culture have affected this field in different ways thus leading to the improvement in the field of propaganda. Political leaders have influenced development in that the posters were to be made more presentable in order to attract the public to give more attention to them. There has been a culture in all people that they develop only attention in posters that are presentable and illegible. (d) The above drawing is a poster developed to create awareness on education. From the artistically point of view, it is not a finely designed piece of art that can be compared to the production of the 20th century. This of art is not really encouraging as per to the response of the child in the picture, he does not seem to understand the calculations. It the present culture of the society, parents wish that their children develop positive attitudes towards academics. For this reason they would prefer the calculation on the board to be easier and the child on the poster to be responding positively and with a happy and understanding face. Therefore, the cultural effect that would have been caused on the poster above when it came in the present generation is the change in the appearance and theme. (e) The above poster is in form of a digital captured picture of the two successful models in life. This poster must lie under the 21st century poster due to the clarity in presentation and clothing appearance. This poster meets the cultural requirements of the society due to its portrayal. This poster is used to encourage children and youths in the society to concentrate on their academics for a better future like that of the above educational models ( Stromquist, 2008). Political leader would always want their campaign poster to look like the poster above in order for the people to identify them well. (d) A poster created in 1950s and the information it conveys to the society: Below is an anti-drug campaign poster: The poster above is a poster that was designed in the 1950s and aimed at fighting drug abuse among young girls. The drug abuse act by young girls had become a common case and therefore, there was need to look for a way of creating an anti-drug trafficking and abuse campaign targeting mostly girls (David, 2009). This poster generation can be identified from structural and appearance point of view. The colouration indicates that this poster was created before the existence of digital captures. The main drug that girls are being encouraged not to involve themselves in its abuse is bang also known by the name in the poster, “marijuana”. This drug is charged with cause of a hallucinating effect to the user. With this effect, the user looses her/his senses and engages in actions that might cause very bad effects. These effects might be in terms of health, loss of dignity or even death. In addition to that, malicious people like the man in the poster above might also take advantage of their states. At the end, the girl gets unwanted pregnancy or is even infected with deadly and sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDs, gonorrhoea or syphilis. This paper is similar to the posters in a way that it is also conveying an informative purpose to the academic field and the society in general. Any person who comes across this essay and reads it would be informed of the importance of posters as a form of propaganda in the society. (e) Conclusion: Posters are a form propaganda that uses printed, captured images, art and designed works to convey informative information to the society. This might be with an intention to educate people on a certain issue that affects the well being of the society in a negative way. They might also be used to convey information to the public about political candidates and their ambitions. Posters are undergoing advancement as technology advances in order to clearly perform the intended function. A recommendation to the society based on the importance of posters as a form of propaganda, is that the society should pay maximum attention to all poster in public in order to be informed of the current issues in the society.
