Extract of sample "The painting of Norman Rockwell"

Picture This is a picture by Norman Rockwell. The picture has the stamp of “Magyar Posta 4 Ft”  The man, who seems to be the main subject of the picture since he is located in the center of the space seems to be in his late fifties from his physique, facial features, and hair. He is sitting in an upright position without any bend in his spine which is indeed strange of a man his age. The chair on which he is sitting neither has a back support nor has the arm-rests. He is balding from the forehead, yet has silvery black hair on the sides of the head.

The man is trying to insert a needle into a thread-hole. To enhance his vision, he is wearing spectacles. He is wearing dark green velvety pant with a waistcoat of the same fabric as the pent. He is wearing a white shirt all buttoned up to the top. The shirt has a broad white collar that is so straight that it seems that the shirt is new. Over the shirt, he is wearing a light green tie. He has a sock placed over his right knee. That sock is blue for the most part with few patches in yellow color here and there.

He is wearing blue socks and brown shoes. The man seems to be a tailor by profession. A brown and white cat is moving over the man’s foot. The cat is patchy with most of the body as white with occasional straps of brown, though the head is completely brown while the face is again white. The cat is looking into the tailor’s box as if it is just about to pick something up from the open box. The cat is in perfect health and seems to be the tailor’s pet. The cat seems to be very comfortable with the tailor.

From the way it looks inside the box, the cat seems to be interested in either taking something out of the box or stepping inside the box. The man seems to be sewing a pair of socks. He seems to be a professional tailor who is an expert at sewing. However, because his vision has become weak from aging, he needs to wear spectacles to be able to see clearly. His whole concentration is focused at inserting the needle into the thread-hole. He is looking at the thread-hole from behind the spectacles wearing a kind of expression that suggests that he is just about to be successful.

The themes that reflect from the details of the picture include patience, concentration, and focus since the tailor is inserting the needle in the thread-hole irrespective of what is happening in his surroundings. He hardly knows that his cat might be about to step upon a needle into the open box. It indeed takes a lot of patience to insert a needle into a thread-hole and one needs to place complete focus upon this task in order to do it successfully.
