Castaway on the Moon - Essay Example

This paper aims to review the film entitled Castaway on the Moon directed by Lee Hae-Joon in 2009. The film belongs to the genre of entertainment and adventure. In order to understand the core purpose of the film, it will be evaluated by summarizing the plot and characters of the story.

The film revolves around the two main characters namely Kim Seung-Keun played by Jung Jae-Yoing and Jung-Yeon played by Jung Ryeo-Won. The story writer has projected in the script that Kim basically wanted to get away with the issues of mainstream life of mortgage and loans. He found suicide to be the only way to get away from the troubles of life. But the twist which has been noted in the film is that Kim survives suicide. He has washed away to an island where he finds himself alone. He tries to go back to normal life but he found himself to be stuck on the island. With the passage of some time, he finds himself comfortable on the island because he was away from debt collectors. It should be noted that the island could be viewed from the town's tall skyscrapers. Jung-Yeon, a young lady who has been staying at her flat for a very long time liked to take photos. She finds Kim when she took close photo shots of the moon. It comes understood of Jung Yeon has found herself an alien on the island (Hae-Joon).  

Since the genre of the film is an adventure, the story has been set up in outdoor locations mostly. As a matter of fact, the director has created an easy transition of the story from city life to a deserted island. The audience watching the movie will actually relate to the situation of being deserted on an island. The film provides an interesting feel to the audience because the story merely depicts people who are running from communicating with people. That is also visible in the context of Kim and Yeon's characters. Yeon was not leaving her flat which allowed her to get away with the communication process with people directly and Kim found the island to be better than being in the town where he had the chance of skipping payments and burdens he could not tolerate (Hae-Joon).

The usage of cinematography has been well managed in the film which makes it quite different from other films with a similar plot line. The deserted island becomes a new land for Yeon who thought that she had witnessed aliens. The film provides both a fictional and non-fictional feel to the plot making audiences of all ages watch and likes it. There has been a lot of buzz in the media about this film because it provided a different storyline from those that were based on action (Hae-Joon).

Overall, through the above analysis, it can be well stated that the film is very entertaining and may be interesting for mass audiences. I would recommend this film to others to watch as it is a complete film.
