Posting one I agree that the central characters, Fermina and Florentino were not victims of extra ordinary circumstances. Love is an emotion experienced by all human beings but in varying magnitude. In Florentino’s case, he was unable to let go of his love for Fermina even after she rejected him by deciding to get married to Urbino. Conversely, Urbino’s love for Fermina motivated him to work towards finding a cure for cholera in order to protect Fermina from its cruelness. Both men loved Fermina and expressed their emotions in different ways.

As depicted in the movie, the suffering and misery caused by cholera was similar to that caused by love. It was impossible for one to avoid the emotion despite directing their efforts towards doing so. Fermina managed to stay away from Florentino while she was married to her husband; however, she was unable to do so after her he died. Posting two I concur that the love between Florentino and Fermina was a true love story, as Florentino’s love for Fermina endured over the years despite the latter being married to someone else.

For most, time heals all wounds; however, in Florentino’s case, time did not make him forget about his undying love for Fermina. He used random women as a coping mechanism to feel the void left by Fermina. Only true love can endure through bleak circumstance. Love, like any other emotion has the ability to manifest itself in either an extremely positive or negative manner. Florentino’s love for Fermina bordered on obsessive love, as the emotion caused dysfunction in other aspects of his life.

For example, he held other women with little regard whereby he felt little remorse for exchanging sexual partners indiscriminately. Work cited Newell, Mike and Ron Harwood, dir. Love in the time of Cholera. Stone Village Pictures, 2007. Film.
