Differences between Andy Warhol’s Films and Art Andy is vividly remembered for his exceptional artistic abilities in popthat became popular as visual art movement. A close look at Andy’s paintings reveals a close association between his artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement. While doing his arts, Any Warhol also joined the film industry. However, many observers say that his films defied the rules of filmmaking; nevertheless, they had a great touch with reality (Warhol 16).

This paper focuses on the difference between the films and art of Andy Warhol. Notable Difference between His Films and Art As told earlier, Andy’s films quite went against the rules of movie making the Classical Hollywood Cinema especially. In particular, Warhol produced films that were characterized by boring long sequences that lacked a change in image or focus (Angel et al. 42). His films did not have a clear path like usual films; he made use of sloppy camera work, and the sound was far from better.

In addition, his films had superstars acting with exaggerated gestures and sense of clumsiness (Angell 35). This is contrary to his visual paintings that done distinctly by experimenting with different contexts and colors. Unlike his films where he could repetitively focus on one image and subject, his pop art dealt with subjects that ranged from the everyday mundane objects such as “Campbell’s Soup Cans” to celebrities such as “Marilyn Monroe.” It is also important to note that his artwork embraced the use of cartoons for his subjects.

Warhol’s art was also characterized by creativity and mass-produced, unlike his films, which hardly got any creativity (Warhol 21). One of his films, Sleep produced in 1963 provides a clear picture of his filmmaking characteristics. The film was comprised of one continuous shot of Warhol’s close friend John Giorno depicting his as sleeping for 8 hours. It is critical to note, however, that the shooting took only twenty minutes with the rest of the film being characterized by repetitions of the film’s opening sequence and silkscreen pictures (Angell 47).

In a large sense, one can consider Sleep as being “anti-film” in the sense that it had the potential of reaching few in a Hollywood obsessed culture. The film is seen to disregard the rules of traditional fictional film. One of the Artistic works, the paintings of Marilyn Monroe can be used to illustrate the difference between his films and art. Focusing on this painting, one realizes the finesse with which it was done. For instance, Andy Warhol used the purest singularity of color that helped immensely in laying emphasis on the images.

In doing his painting of Monroe, Andy depicted Monroe as having crimson lips and faint blue eye shadow; consequently, this gave Marilyn Monroe a feature of glamorous transvestite showgirl during the 1970s (Warhol 24). As a result, this produced a decorative, fashionable and fanciful piece of art. In conclusion, it is clear that while Andy Warhol’s films exhibited a great sense of reality fashioned with repetition, his arts, on the other hand, were done with simplicity and finesse.
