History of Modern Art Question 2 Robert Rauschenberg’s ‘Combine’ paintings have expanded the definitions of art in various ways worth noting. For instance, the Short Circuit (Combine Painting), 1955, reveals distinct styles or movements that are often present in most of Rauschenberg’s artwork. First, it is a hybrid that infuses sculpture and painting through the use of found images and humble materials. It means the artist uses both the Neo-Dada movement through the integration of Abstract Expressionism in his experimental approach of testing artistic boundaries.

Second, involves the integration of Combines to depict texture and colour as unique creations. I, therefore, believe delineation boundaries as part of Combines ensures that the composition and arrangement are technically representatives of the urban debris. Overall, the artist merges different forms to offer a conceptual outlook of the contemporary world. Question 3 Colescott addresses numerous contemporary issues in his work such as sex and race through the use of borrowed compositions and re-structuring of Western paintings.

The artist equally engages in volatile mixtures through Abstract Expressionism to represent sexual stereotypes (Arnason & Mansfield, 2012). He also employs rakish imagery infused with small collages to demonstrate the relationship between the fate of black people and history. It means Colescott is communicate his message via familiar racial stereotypes. This is evident in his re-creation of older masterpieces from the Western Art Historical cannon where he paints hanging assemblages to address issues of colour and gender in America.

I, thus, believe my classmates’ assessment of the artist’s style of Abstract Expression is exact because of the figurative use of patchy brushwork and other wobbly drawings.
