Write about the current Picasso Exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA NYC) "Picasso Sculpture" By of the Picasso is renowned for his marvelous pieces of artwork. Even though the designer left but his artistic works remained to tell history of his passion. Many described Picasso’s two dimensional work as surprising and termed the three dimensional work of the artist as wielding. Comparing the artist with others, one could easily tell that he was concerned with the heart rather than the head. With the continuous shearing forces between convention and modernity, Picasso endeavored to erase the distinction between modernity and distinction. A resounding feature in most of his features. With the debut of his works at the MoMA, the public expected to observe some of the inerasable images in their minds. The main dailies and other publications namely the NYT, Wall Street Journal and the New Yorker among others used exclamations to describe the show with rapturous praise. The show comprised about one hundred and forty pieces constructed between 1902 and 1964. At the fourth floor of the MoMA, it would be surprising that the artistic pieces of a single individual dominated the whole area. In the first sight, a sense of surprise, applause, appreciation and worry would take its toll in an individual with little elements of disgust. It is understandable for the former attitudes described but for the latter, it is also a reality especially if one imagines the keenness to maintain and more so to all the exhibits. As described by the union of journalists throughout the city in one phrase, the show is dumbfolding. Generally, it is readily believable that the site reveals the outstanding nature of Picasso’s dexterity in his works. In addition, there is a strong sense of consistency in Picasso’s works since there is a similar collection of styles with common themes and dimensional expression. This observation also prompts a review on the sequence on how Picasso made his impression and a realization dawns thereafter that the artist had a unique behavior in the way he worked. The artist may work continuously making sculptures in three consecutive years. He would then stop and only work three to five years later. At some point he would even extend for more than a decade before resuming but would ensure a consistent work throughout his life. Since any artist has a major quest for telling a narrative through skills and talents bestowed in them, Picasso is not special in this regard. Picasso told numerous stories, expressed views and showed interest on various things throughout his work. It is then clear than most of Picasso’s works had varying significance. Through this exhibition, it is concise to single out one of the works he valued a great deal – Woman in the Garden. The woman is sculptured sitting low on the ground in a dark pedestal with a pair of leafy fronds emanating from the back section of the material. The anterior section is comprised of a construction of round bobs and a network of assorted metal pieces welded together purposed for a constructive impression. The work is great but with lack of slight keenness, the impression would be different – this aspect makes it increasingly interesting. At the superior edge of the structure, there are five curling fingers portending a waving hand. Behind the hair, there is a curved piece of metal, a construction of the skull dome. The sculpture has a round disc below the breasts with several orifices. The ears have got beads that jingle with cartoonish sounds. The beads and bean shaped kidney-like structures demonstrates a completion of anatomical impressions. In addition, the woman have metallic impressions of teeth. A splendid structure. The number of artwork is high displayed as the work of a single artist. The number is directly related to the numerous works that the artist engaged in as projects. Remember all the works and projects that the artist set out to work on were meant for the purposes of competition. Picasso did the work and exhibited in shows under the adjudication of the judges. A number of times his works were rejected and he was compelled to continue with his creativity and further trials. Whenever Picasso’s pieces were rejected, he would take them back to his studio store and begin acting on a different thing. At this point, we have to appreciate competition and more the appreciation should go to the act of rejection. In essence, without rejection Picasso would have never worked on many sculptures that we see today in the museum. According to Picasso’s close friends and trainers, Picasso was a determined individual who would go greater heights to achieve his mission. For instance, during the time he made the Woman in the Garden, he had not mastered the art of welding but he went ahead and finished the sculpture. After the finish of the masterpiece is the moment he went to the welding site studio to gain skills and experience. As an artist, it is a great honor to create a complete sculpture made up of amalgamation of metal debris joined together through welding with no professional knowledge. This might show that it only takes passion and trials to make something great. Later in 1928, he decided to take the sculpture and mount it at the grave site of Guillaume Apollinaire who was a poet, a friend and an appreciator of Picasso’s works. At this point, Picasso had added more bronze and special skill assisted by Gonzalez in Gonzalez’s studio. It is hard to demonstrate the portion that Gonzalez – a professional welder did and that which was done by Picasso. One point to be appreciated in this work is the skill and materials used since junk was reconstructed to come up with something adorable for decades. When the pieces are viewed critically, the obvious meaning is easily noticeable. At this point of making of most of the sculptures and painting the idea of surrealism was also dawning in the arts industry. The period was characterized by incredible erotic paintings, sculptures and paintings. All sculptures could be seen in all dimensions ranging from the front view, the lower sections of the sculptures the head and the backs as well. Through the observations, Picasso’s ideas would be obvious for interpretations. Moreover in some situations, it is clear to understand the interpretation as well. Again there is a question on whether the sculptures might have been of specific people maybe friends or closer relatives but the answer is unclear. When the paintings and sculptures of images are assessed, there is no clarity but there is a fact that during the time in which he did one of the sculptures he had a teenage girlfriend. Though it is not clear whether the idea of a girlfriend would have inspired him to the extent of making a sculpture. The arrangements in the next gallery there are images of abstractions that might have been on the way of the artist hampering the normal activities of the same individual. The flip of hair at the top is prime fostering the feeling of Picasso’s girlfriend and that is the only manifestation. The review of this exhibition has imparted a different understanding in my feeling about arts. Through this view, there is an understanding that art is a very powerful tool. Art can write a whole novel in a single sculpture. According to this observation, the most adorable compliment is that the exhibition has changed things into a crazed Picassoid. It is easier to trace the feelings of Picasso in two dimensional artwork but in three dimensions the idea is more surprising. The exhibition recasts and revalorizes Picasso – this observation invokes primitivism and transcends to the cubist period before the pornographic stage and the ill-mannered bronzes. Throughout the works Picasso has maintained a sense of surprise and uniqueness, the sculptures are humorous far beyond the paintings done by the same artist. This is the most important show of the artist’s lifetime works. Throughout this analysis I come to understand something about Picasso. I have confidence that I can point out a character or more in Picasso. For first I would outline that Picasso is enduring and resilient. Provided that some work were done for longer duration endurance is necessary. Moreover, in many instances, the works were rejected and these required more sense of resilience. Picasso was an appreciative individual, this is manifested in the manner in which he appreciated his friends including his teenage girlfriend Therese. In conclusion, this review has succeeded in all aspects of providing a concise understanding on the exhibition together with providing an analysis-based identification of personality. Generally, Picasso joins other artists in their quest for entertaining and educating the world through their well-choreographed artistic pieces. At this point there should be an understanding that all works had a greater significance in the life of the artist or to the world in general.
