Visual elements and Design Insert Insert s In comparing Hervey Dunn’s and the Indian artwork, though the matter is different there are several similarities and differences, which yield a better understanding of the artwork. The Indian Image Harvey Dunn’s image The arrangement of elements in both pictures forms a sense of visual elements. In the Hervey Dunn’s indicates an asymmetrical or informal balance, when the two sides are different; but still balanced (Malloy, 2014). In this artwork, the activities of the people indicate that they are focusing all their efforts on one side; however, it occurs in a manner, which creates a balance.

In the Indian family artwork, the balances of the elements are somewhat evenly distributed and brings similar in their visual weight. Hence, although, the balance of the elements is symmetrical it brings some balance in the artwork (Malloy, 2014). Regarding movement, both artists have directed the viewers’ eyes across their artwork. The artists have showed direction and action in the manner through which they direct the movement of eyes across the artwork (Malloy, 2014). The artists have utilised rhythm in the manner they direct the movement of the eyes across the artwork.

Rhythms are displayed in the way the elements are arranged in the artwork. The artists organised the elements in an orderly manners, such that, the artists follow the elements in an orderly manner (Malloy, 2014). Hervey Dunn’s art displays a unity design, where everything works, or fits together as a team. The Unity design is highlighted through continuity, where the alignment of the shape and figures ensures that a viewer moves from one part to another in a definite order. Proximity is another unity design elements, all the parts of the art are grouped together, clustered, and enclosed into sets (Malloy, 2014).

The art displays harmony, where related materials, colours, and textures are used. The unity design is brought about by harmony, whereby, the related colours and materials are utilised in the elements, such as flowers. In the Indian artwork, the unity is displayed through proximity; the elements of the artwork are grouped together. About the colour, Hervey Dunn and the Indian artwork utilises hue that is, they use primary colours. In chroma, the intensity of the colour in the images can be characterised as bright.

The colour value of the image as light, with the intensity of the hue, such as, red, yellow, and blue are highly pronounced (Malloy, 2014). The Hervey Dunn’s uses the variety concept to make the art piece interesting. The Hervey Dunn uses a variety of colour in his artwork. Similarly, the Indian artwork indicates the use of various colours, as well. In texture, the general feel of both artworks is described as smooth, the actual nature of the artworks are simulated through the connections displayed by the elements (Malloy, 2014).

In contrast, the artists utilised different elements in the art piece. Hervey Dunn’s art piece shows the smooth flow of elements, which is characterised by a tall element being, placed a small element; however, the Indian artwork shows the use of different elements as a dark colour is displayed right next to a bright element. Finally, the value of the artwork is shown in the lightness or darkness of the colours of the elements (Malloy, 2014). In Hervey Dunn’s artwork, the mood is light, gentle, and loving.

In contrast, in the Indian artwork, it displays a mood of political and spiritual. In conclusion, the similarities and differences displayed in both artworks resulted in a better understanding of the elements and the choice made in their creation. Reference Malloy, K. (2014).
