“The Replacement Movie” In the movie, the replacements, Keanu Reeves who is the leading star, displays elements of situational leadership. This is evident judging from his maturity and confidence during and before and after the game. Here, we see clearly that Keanu has the capacity or ability to delegate, participate and even sell his ideas to some of the team players. In short he is a leader and displays leadership qualities. Keanu is confident that he is capable of beating the Dallas team in spite of him not playing against them before. His team mate Martell describes to Keanu that the Dallas team has a reputation of winning every game they play against any competitor. In response, Keanu confidently replies that is he sure that he could beat them during the coming game. Moreover, when he is caught up in traffic, Keanu is not worried about getting to the game late. This is because he understands that such situations are unavoidable thus nothing can be achieved by worrying. Moreover, he still trusts his ability to perform during the game even under pressure, he is sure of a win. Likewise, during the second quarter of the game we see Keanu’s ability to delegate and communicate information to every team member. His words accompany actions in which we see how he bounces of Martell from the lineup, comes out of the tunnel and smooches the cheerleader erasing a seventeen point deficit point. This gives the impression of a man who knows what he is doing and he is doing it perfectly. On leadership based on competency, we also see that Keanu stress management level and self insight are well above the limit. This makes him to perform efficiently during the game because he knows his strengths and is able to calm himself during difficult moments in the game (The Replacements). During the first replacement game, we see that Hackman displays effective leadership based on task management, which is a prerequisite for enhancing performance during or in the course of the game . Secondly Hackman is also capable of managing information and resources and in this we see how the tone in which his request Favreau to pass him the ball in the course of the game. It clearly shows his ability to analyze different situations in the game and to know when it is appropriate for him to make a move with the ball towards his opponents. Secondly, just before the game starts we see that how calculative he is concerning the goals. He believes that certain actions like coming to the match or game late has the potency of providing negative results during the game and he is also not welcoming on taking excuses from his fellow teammates regarding the game. This we see in his conversation with Keanu on why he reported late to the game. Brooke as a character in the movie also shows leadership in how she interacts with Keanu regarding him going to the game. Brooke shows social responsibility which amounts in civic responsibility as she is sure that Keanu’s car will not allow him to be in time for his game. She volunteers to drive Keanu in her car. In addition, she displays integrity because when she asked Keanu to join her in her car, she was genuine and willing to drive Keanu to the game (The Replacements). John Madden and Pat Summerall also show leadership based on social responsibility. They have taken up their civic responsibility of educating or passing the information to the public. They have taken the role as play by play announcers to ongoing match that is being played by the two teams. We see their ability to communicate effectively and clearly during the game. In most cases, people are always anxious when placed in fronts of cameras, but in the movie they show ability to stand before large crowds of people in front of cameras and deliver. The group of cheerleaders in the movie also displays leadership because of how they manipulate the opponents team to get distracted during the game. Even though they are no directly engaged in the game process, they display leadership in supporting their team from such scenes where their lascivious choreography on the sidelines of the field distracts rival players. In a way, this can be attributed to innovation hence they show leadership when it comes to innovation as they are capable of coming up dresses and songs which in turn elicit negative emotions from the rivals playing their team. Likewise, as witnessed in earlier games, the cheerleaders were committed to their role because they played a larger role than the opposing team and this was something that their team needed, especially since they were playing against a team which had a reputation of always winning in their games. Lastly, the coach of the team displays leadership when it comes to leading others and becoming innovative during the game. As we can see, he has placed Keanu and Hackman as the heroes in the game judging on their different roles during the game. Moreover, by purposefully placing other minor characters in the movie strategically to distract the opponent team, he displays innovation that is witnessed in the sumo wrestler and the mad dog who is known to attack anything that is red in color. Likewise, by purposefully placing a deaf lineman, he strategically ensures that his team has an upper hand because there is no way a deaf man could be called offside’s on audible tones during the game (The Replacements).
