REALISTIC PAINTING Throughout the history of western art, Realistic Paintings acted a pivotal role in the artistic history. I believed that Realistic Paintings should be the mainstream of painting in present Americans society. Art should be understood first, so public can accept that. Realistic Painting is, it focuses on real, and puts forward problems, pushed people re-think, to achieve the real ascension, pointing to the real things, make the correct guide for the future. Therefore, the spirit of Realism Paintings is the core of contemporary artistic creation, just as it is the core of art creation of the whole past time. The history of realistic paintings is dated back to early 19s, associated with great artists such as George Bellows. George Bellows is regarded as one among the great American artists. His work ranges between 1882 and 1925, with one of his famous arts been the Crowd (fig.1) in black and white lithograph of 1923. Among George Bellow’s reputation is his early work about powerful boxing matches and the realistic tenement life in New York City. George also painted the city landscape and seascape, battle scenes, and portraits, with illustrations and prints. George’s work was out of influence and real life experience in the United States at that time. Most of his arts portray the dynamic and challenging nature of life in America at early twentieth century and over its first decade. In this print, George Bellows expressed the vitality of urban life through a dynamic contrast of light and dark. The intense illumination from a street lightly reveals an anxious and pressing crowd tightly packed into a confining space.1 This painting is dark in tone; many different people fill with the whole image, capturing fleeting moments. Before American Independence, most of the American artists grew and learnt in European. Over the 19 century, a large number of American artists went to Germany, France, Britain and other countries to study .This is the most probable link of confusion between the American artists works and European artist’s work.. The American artist has a certain reputation in the world, mostly living abroad for many years. Therefore, during this period American painter creation mainly follows the traditional classical art of Europe, such as Britain and France. During such period, the Americas modern art had not yet started. Ashcan school, also called the Ash Can School, can be termed as the foundation of art in America. The Ashcan school is dated back to early twentieth century. It was best known for works portraying scenes of daily life in New York, often in the city’s poorer neighborhoods. George Bellows was influence by Henri, and became much associated to the Ashcan school. The school was one of the first modern art movements in America. Regardless of their diversity in artwork styles, George, among other eight members of the school had a common believe that art should reflect contemporary life, and there is a clear criticism for life. 2 The aspect of life criticism among the members of "Ashcan School" can either be termed as realistic painters. Compared to other artists, Ashcan school was, “real” whereas other artists were very different. The concept of realism in art had a direct relationship and a great impact to the artist style. Ashcan schools drew the City-based painter: which did not depict city light and elegant pictures, but miserable, desolate and the dark side of society. "Ashcan School" was the founder and the mother of American modern art. Ashcan school was the first in the entirely American life content as a theme to get rid of the long vassal Britain, French paintings condition. They oppose by a model to paint the New World from Europe to the United States academic style against the subordinate traditional European classical aesthetics, creating unique painting style of the United States. It is "Ash School" that open a new era of opportunity for American modern art. Ashcan artist style of realism also introduced a new era of artist. This style is not their main form, but rather the content: American urban life and non-ideal truthfully. This was depicted in their City Apartment, music bars, slums and terminals paintings. The aspect of realism in the art industry by then was also characterized by a three-dimensional works of art which reflected the years, the aspect independence and innovative. This played a major role in boosting the development of American modern art. The Ashcan school was a revelation to United States. It made America to recognize the status of the avant-garde art movement in Europe and began to adjust their own pace, to catch up and go beyond European artists. Artists of Ashcan school used various techniques of European modern art practices in the United States. This is because most of these artists, the likes of George had gone outside America to European nations, where they advanced and learned the new skills and artists styles. Aspects of painting method abandoned the ideology of traditional and colonial. The artists style, views, forms and so on began to get an unprecedented creativity. After 1945, the worlds art center gradually shifted from Paris to New York, The United States will gradually form of modern art today, so let a person yearning. The aspect of realism in paint is significant in the art industry. As depicted in some “real paintings” such as the Crowd (fig.1) by George bellows, realism in painting brings in the relationship of artwork and time. As embraced by the “ashcan schools”, realism in art involved painting of real pictures, portraying the life and situation within the society. This created a link of time and events, unlike unreal art that is created out of fiction and imaginations. 3 It is a visual dialect, which communicates the contemporary issues within a society, stirring up unending scope of contemplations and thoughts to the targeted audience. “Real” painting gives an image of the society. It communicates the components of a society and the various elements that affect it. I hereby concur with the majority that Realistic Paintings should be the general trend of art in the American society. Realistic painting portrays the image of the current society. This element forms the major objective of art, which is “easy public understanding”. By painting, the “real” and not unrealistic, people will be in a position to understand the message behind painting so easily. This makes it easy for the public to accept the art, because it concerns them. Realism in painting is also a way of communicating the various issues affecting a society, whether legal or illegal. Realism painting will portrays the situation of life and various elements within a society. Through this, it will make people to open up their mind towards thinking. Realism painting will also communicate the other side of a society, to which the public may not be aware. Through realism painting, people will be able to understand the situations they are at and be in a position to think towards a possible solution. By pointing the real situation, this will be a foundation to a possible future solution. Realistic Paintings is also the foundation of art creation of the completely past time. Realistic painting should be embraced in the current American society since it communicates what people are doing in their current life. It talks of what is happening currently in the world, hence a society can use such to make advancements or bring a possible solution to various situations. The same can be used as the foundation of history, since it is comprised of real events within a society. Because of its aspect of reality, realistic painting is simple and easy to comprehend. Such art is easy to understand and interpret. A greater number of people are not in a position to understand the hidden message behind a painting due to its complexity in nature. Making use of realistic painting will hereby be the appropriate way for the artists to speak to people who would not otherwise understand the works of art as many artists would be ready and willing to accept. Conclusively, realistic painting should be upheld, and form the mainstream of painting in present Americans society. This will advance the art industry, making it diverse and appreciable, and as well enable it to reach its targeted audience more appropriately.
