Extract of sample "Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi"

From the work, the Iran society is one that can be interpreted that is divided into classes that place women below the men. This explains why not wearing the veil is considered a huge crime in Iran. It is unbelievable how Nafisi was requested to wear the veil so as she could find a job in a university. This leads to question whether one’s intellect is based on one’s mode of dressing or their wits. The persistent strive by Nafisi to emancipate herself from the chains of misleading culture explains how Iran society is a patriarchal one and has continued to institute mechanisms that demean the female gender (Nafisi 1-79).

This leaves the women on the verge of either choosing to adhere to the arguably demeaning culture of compulsory wearing of the veil or liberate themselves.
