After reading section 12.3, Factors that Determine What, When, and How Much We Eat, in the text, does your personal experience support these concepts? Why or why not? Provide examples. My personal experiences support the concepts of What, When, and How Much We Eat. I can say that what affects me on what I eat basically rooted from what I am used to eating, what my family serves at home and our culture. I am not used to eating food from other countries. Aside from culture, I am also greatly influenced by health and diet matters.

Even if there are foods that I’m not very fond of eating, I really try to consume because it’s essential for my health. There are a lot of foods that I eat because my doctor highly recommends them. Therefore, I can attest and support that these concepts of What, When, and How Much we eat really apply to humans. What is the difference between the ideas of set points versus settling points in relation to weight control? Which do you believe to be true? Explain your answer. Set point theory believes that body has definite set point and to maintain constant body weight is to eat when there is motivation to eat, to defend the set-point; while settling point theory believes that body weight tends to drift a natural settling point and the body weight remains stable as long as there are no long term changes in the factors that influence it and if there are, their impact is limited by negative feedback.

Set point idea is true because it can explain why we can’t control our body weight by dieting. It’s a losing battle because we have a set point and urge to eat to defend this set point. We can’t resist hunger and will do anything to satisfy this hunger.
