Socialization and Impression Management Personal socialization process and personality is highly influenced by friends in high school level. The state of the school influences a person’s personality and socialization process. In my case, it is hard for students in my school to interact with students from community high school due to the perception of difference in social status. This aspect has influenced my personal socialization process as I only have a chance to interact with students from private schools.

Popularity is constructed when a person tends to associate with famous people in the society in order to be recognized. In the video by Nada Surf Popular, Mr. Caws advices the girl students in his class to try and look attractive in order to be recognized by the famous Johnny who is the best player in the school football team. In this case, teachers also play a role in the construction popularity. A student who is the teachers’ favorite automatically gains popularity. Popularity influences high school experience as one is forced to change his or her true identity in order maintain the fame.

Many students tend to hide their true self and engage in negative activities with the aim of impressing masses. Impression management is the process in which people strive to influence the opinions of other people on someone. It is mostly done through social interaction as people tend to regulate information on a person on social network. In the song video ‘Online’ by Brad Paisley, the pizza delivery man is neglected and looked down upon because of his appearance. As a result, he chooses to change his looks on his profile picture in an online social network in order for people to have a better opinion about him.

This is explained in the song’s lyrics, “I drive a no-hondey. Never been the second best. There is a whole lot of me you need to see. I’m so much cool online”.Impression management can be portrayed in most face book pages as people with low self esteem tend to use celebrity pictures as on their profiles with the aim of making many friends. Impression management makes face book valuable as it creates a positive image of low selling product thus can be used in marketing and advertisement.
