Enhance the quality of the environment, the conservation of natural resources, and the integration of on-farm and biological resources; protect human health and safety by enhancing rural life quality and support owner-operated farms. Such an efficiently managed farm should be able to promote crop, livestock and enterprise diversity (Clancy, 2000).Farm management is an approach in farming that enables farmers to free both time and other precious resources that can be used to improve the quality of life.

Planning in farm management enables creative thinking on how crops and animal interactions can be used to maximize resource utilization and maximize the productivity of the farm. Planning in farm management involves the arrangement of farm activities into four main sub-systems which include; natural, biological, human and social. All these components are unique to themselves and together they form the farming system.It involves the careful analysis of the environment and the markets to be able to come up with the value chain enterprises in the farm that will be able to attract the market and retain consumers for continuity.

It calls for effective resource mobilization and employment in production management in order to improve the productivity of the farm. The enterprise correlations on the farm must be ensured for the purposes of cost-cutting and profit maximization in the farm.An effective farm manager must be able to assess the volumes and values of the readily available resources to determine whether it is necessary to add more or improve on the ones already present. Of great importance is the access of the water preferably the flowing water to ensure the smooth flow of processes on the farm.

The management must put out a layout that ensures the access of every value chain enterprise already established.For effective and efficient management, it is important for the farm manager to understand the basic principles of the farm.
