Summary of Readings Peggy McIntosh is a revolutionized citizen who has decided to do away with white privileges which are mainly aimed at being mean and disrespecting human rights. The author narrates of how she was taught to be mean but has instead decided that she would not continue in that direction and instead will give up some her privileges and power. The author narrates how she managed to understand the feelings of oppression women undergo especially women of color. As a way to end this repatriation, Peggy mad a daily effect list which would put an end to oppression.

For example, she wishes that she lives in places where she is not harassed by anyone, go shopping, and voice her opinions, find music of her race, in addition to education with good curricular for her children. Moreover, her financial ability should not be controlled by race or color (McIntosh Pg 189). She says this was not easy until she wrote it down and acted on it. She wishes everyone could be like her. Miley Cyrus brings in her article about ratchet culture and appropriation is trying to enlighten us on how we perceive and understand the ratchet culture.

Being ratchet requires that one does it for fun and not to appropriate some people of culture or race. Our perception is what makes the difference. She gives an example of a white artist twerking with 3 black women (Stewart). The black women are putting on black clothes while the artist who is white is putting on a white cloth. All of them are shown twerking and happily enjoying their share of music. However, this video may be misunderstood. Someone would think why dress in white and dress the black women in dull clothes.

The answer is so simple and it is not meant to oppress anyone. The white costume is used as a spotlight and it is meant to shine in front of the video as the starring of the video. Women of color are known as props and are never supposed to dress the same. Tamara Winfrey defines the situation by saying that, it matters who is doing appropriation”. Colonization has made western culture more superior than the Africans, Asians and Anglo Nubians. For this reason, it is important that appropriation is not misunderstood but taken as a way of twerking and having fun.
