Homosexuality is good for an individual and society Topic proposal Homosexuality refers to the same sex relationships contributed by attractions for the same sex. The two major forms include lesbianism and gays. The topic has been a controversial topic in the world and thus has caused major divisions both within homes, work places, politics, and media and even in various religions. There are individuals that support homosexuality and believe that it constitutes a human right that must be recognized, respected, and appreciated since it occurs due to uncontrollable forces. Conversely, opponents of the topic argue that homosexuality is not good to an individual as well as the society since it adds no value to human life. Thus, both sides have reasons they believe justifies their position on homosexuality. This paper therefore explores these viewpoints with the aim of taking a position on the issue. such a position is arrived at after careful review of the arguments and their rationale. Outline I. –Topic proposal A. -Introduction B. Body 1. Reason I 2. Reason II 3. Reason 3 Homosexuality is a term derived from Greek and refers to same sex. In broader terms, homosexuality entails the sexual attraction, behavior or even romantic attraction between individuals of the same gender or sex (Connors 23). The most common forms of homosexual include gay among males and lesbianism among females. Most homosexuals engage in committed same sex relationships. Apart from human beings, the behavior is common among non-human animal species. Depending with various cultures, homosexuality has received admiration and condemnation throughout the world history. Towards the end of the 19th century, there have been increased global movements in support of homosexuality. These movements champion for increased recognition and visibility of homosexual rights in addition to legal rights for the homosexuals. Among the rights advocated for include the right to military service, right to equivalent access to healthcare, right to marriage, employment, civil unions as well as right to parenting. This therefore, explores homosexuality, which has been a controversial topic in the world. However, I do believe that homosexual is not good for an individual as well as to the society. Homosexuals argue that homosexuality does not come from choice but arises due to contest of nature versus fighting nature. According to them, this form of relationship does not come by choice thus nobody has control over it. Therefore, homosexuals should never be segregated, abused, criticized or even discriminated against since it is something they have no power to control (Exodus Global Alliance 1). This statement can be interpreted to mean that homosexuals are not happy since they do not have power to change their situation or condition. This argument raises some questions. First, does it mean that some homosexuals are not happy with their condition? Secondly, do the unhappy homosexuals therefore lead a miserable life since they are in a situation that makes them sad and do not have authority to change the situation. Third, why is it that most people become homosexuals when they attain a certain stage and interact with fellow peers mostly in social or public places such as schools , universities or even social groups and not at home? Finally, does it mean that the features which influence somebody to become a homosexual are born or inherited and develops when a child grows into adulthood? I do not think I will get a satisfactory answer for these questions more so from the homosexuals. This is because the argument advanced by homosexuals is just a means to make us believe that their reason for justification of the condition is a hoax thus misleading. Personally, I believe that homosexual behavior or condition is a form of perversion meant to hoodwink the society that homosexuals do not choose their status or condition and thus, should be considered, appreciated, recognized and understood. However, if there are some people who have stopped the habit and have integrated well in the society, then how comes that some individuals believe that the condition is uncontrollable? Homosexuals therefore just seek sympathy from the society to recognize and appreciate their evil and unnatural acts, which are of no benefit to the society and even among themselves (World Justice 1). Consequently, I consider this point misleading since the natural or real purpose of sex is to enhance reproduction of species. This natural reproduction entails interaction between species of opposite sex and this proves the behavioral, psychological, and physiological differences witnessed between males and females (Boswell 14). The natural reproduction process is controlled by emotions as well as sensations, which encourage and induce species to reproduce. However, the reverse occurs among homosexuals who despite being of the same gender engage in masturbatory acts with the intention of generating reproductive sensations as well as emotions. Since this act cannot contribute to natural reproduction, it entirely entails perversion. Thus, homosexuals in attaining sexual satisfaction through emotions and sensations generated from masturbatory acts have a notion that they are reproducing nevertheless this is a hoax (West & Richard 45). I therefore do not see the need to promote homosexuality in the society since it cannot lead to reproduction, which constitutes the original or real intention it was meant to serve. Thus, homosexuality is not good to the world and needs to be banned since it encourages individuals who lie that the condition is uncontrollable yet in real sense, the situation is manageable. Secondly, homosexuals assert that they cannot control their relationship or change from it since it comes naturally. This reason is nonsensical since there is nothing permanent as change. For instance, individuals are borne left-handed yet by practice they become right handed. Moreover, every human being was born abed wetter yet has changed the situation. In addition, there are certain individuals who are borne in the families of beggars, others were thieves or even rapist just to mention a few of the undesirable qualities in life. However, these qualities have diminished with time since the affected individuals decided to change the situation by working against nature (Jones & Mark 67). Therefore, if we accept that the condition among homosexuals is natural thus is incontrollable, then does it mean that there the level of degree of naturalness differs and that the condition of the homosexuals is of high degree or complex? From the above examples, it is clear proof that homosexuals try to portray others as fools who can believe in anything they assert without critical thinking. If truly, a child born left-handed can become right handed through a series of trainings, then what of the “one born a homosexual?” I therefore believe that homosexuals are the greatest liars on earth who want to prove their case on flimsy grounds and which even a toddler can distinguish the its weakness (Siker 9). These are individuals who were introduced to this behavior and have become addicted to it thus find a reason to argue their behavior. Thus, homosexuality is not good for an individual and the society since most of them just want to lead a weird life, which is of no good to the society and the whole world. This relationship should therefore be condemned and discouraged on earth as they are meaningless and add no value to human life. Third, homosexuals in their campaign for recognition argue that the society needs to recognize them and should therefore stop discrimination or criticisms against homosexuals. According to them, homosexuality is good and natural human right which individuals should become proud of. However, I totally disagree to this notion since earlier on, homosexuals had argued that their condition is beyond control thus the society need to understand and accepts them. This assertion leaves me wondering whether something that is viewed as good can at the same time make the person sad since he cannot change or control it. In fact, individuals who have deformities consider themselves imperfect yet a homosexual is happy with his or her disability (Haugen & Susan 57). Moreover, since homosexuals choose this kind of lifestyle and thus are proud and happy about it, then why should they be ashamed when associated or linked with such evil behaviors in society? I believe that a person is always proud of his choice and loves being identified with it. How comes these homosexuals are of the different opinion when it comes to the societal perception on homosexuality? This group therefore, must rise up and support their choice whether bad or good for them, or abandon such relationship and lead a normal life entailing heterosexual relationships (Tamagne 78). Since they cannot choose what they want, then it clearly show that these people are useless individuals who lack identity and position in life. Because of their indecisiveness, I consider this relationship useless and of no good to humanity. It is therefore high time for society to rise and condemn this act since individuals who do not understand and who feel ashamed of their chosen lifestyle practice it. Fourth, homosexuality goes against the social morality of marriage and reproduction. Since homosexuality encourages sexual relationship between individuals of the same sex, it reduces and discourages marriage between a men and woman. The homosexuals marry and live with one another as husband and wife and this contradicts the social morality of various communities. This is because homosexuals view sex as a means of entertainment, pleasure, or even lifestyle rather than use it for reproduction. Since there is little chance of marriage, chances of reproduction is significantly reduced as, the opportunity offered by marriage in recreation is restricted (Tamagne 90). Moreover, the few individuals who get married give birth to few children and this causes a decline in the population. If the situation is not resolved in due time, then there is high chance of extinction of various tribes and nations who promote homosexuality. However, homosexuals might argue that their relationship checks the world population by limiting the chances and opportunities of reproduction. Since there are few heterosexual marriages, there are reduced chances of women conceiving since men marry fellow men and women do the same. To some extent, this point is true but considering the number of deaths versus births, the reasoning becomes futile (Tamagne 121). For example, if in a community of homosexuals, 1000 deaths are recorded while 500 children are borne within a given month, there is a population decline in the community in the long run since more people will die while few kids will be borne to replace the deceased. After a certain time, the population might become extinct since an avenue of recreation is restricted by homosexual relationships. More kids cannot be borne and in case it occurs, the homosexual couples only accept few to have few children compared to heterosexual relationships (Jones & Mark 69). Consequently, in case the parents of the homosexuals decided to be homosexuals, would they be alive to enjoy the fruits of procreation? Thus, if parents to the homosexuals saw the importance of recreation, then the offspring should continue the family lineage to ensure perpetuity. Therefore, the practice of homosexual reduces population and in extreme cases can lead to extinction thereby causing loss of unique genes and characteristics (Jones & Mark 75). Homosexuality is thus not good for the society, an individual, to the humanity since it reduces recreation opportunities, and prevents transfer of genes from one generation to another. In extreme cases, this situation can lead to population bottleneck, a very dangerous situation to the existence of biodiversity. Fifth, homosexuality is not good since it has serious health effects to individuals. Thus, homosexuality has emotional, psychological, and physical health impacts on the individuals and the entire society. First, homosexuality has emotional health impacts since most of the relationships do not last. For instance, various researches show that 78% of the gay relationships last less than three years with only 12% reaching five years and beyond (Siker 14). Due to the large number of break ups, most of the affected individuals affected remained with painful for a long time. Furthermore, studies reveal that students whose parents are homosexuals have a high chance of becoming homosexuals. Such individuals are prone to 2 to 4 times in becoming homosexuals. This situation proves that homosexuality causes human breakups and misery among the homosexuals. Secondly, from a survey conducted in the region, homosexuals recorded a high number of visits to the hospitals for psychological mainly for counseling purposes. Thus, many homosexuals suffer from sadness as well as depression (Siker 34). Further, studies reveal that gays are five times having attempted to commit suicide compared to heterosexual. This scenario continues to prove that homosexuality is not good to the society science carefully. Consequently, homosexuality encourages promiscuity. This is because studies reveal that many of the homosexual couples had many sexual partners. This scenario is dangerous putting into consideration the HIV/AIDS prevalence and spread in the world. Finally, homosexuality is not good for an individual and the society since it is opposed by the major religions of the world. The major religions of the earth included Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. All of the three major religions opposes the homosexuality and condemns such acts (Exodus Global Alliance 1). Through Islam teachings, we learn that such mistakes are pushed and lead to correction of an individual. For instance, Islam doctrines condemn any form of homosexuality and thus, violators are punished by stoning to death. This is the reason why incidences of homosexuality within the Middle East are relatively low compared to that of the West. In conclusion, I believe that homosexuality is bad and should be condemned by the society and individual since it has little benefits compared to the huge disadvantages attributed to it. Communities should discourage such relationship in the society since such it misguide people into doing evils things. Moreover, it negatively influences the character and morals of the society. There is no clear benefit associated with homosexuality in the society apart from eroding the culture of the society. Works Cited Connors, Paul G. Homosexuality. Detroit, MI: Greenhaven Press, 2007.
