Self Reflection Instructions: Task: Self Reflection The art of writing is a gift. Like any other gifts and talents, writing skills if not well kept and appreciated tend to fade away. As a result, I promised to always give the best of my ability to my writing skills and practices. I take writing course, not because I am an exceptionally perfect writer, but because it is what I wanted to study most since my childhood. I feel that writing is more of a talent in me than anything else. This term has seen me through downs and ups in my writing experience ranging from handling relatively complex topics to improving in language interpretation and analysis. I would like to admit that the various writing assignments that we have always been given in class coupled together with my extensive research on writing skills have influenced my approach to language. On the other hand, attitude is the determinant of success in each and every realm. Fundamentally, the word can be defined as an individual’s perception on a specified objective and the means by which he or she strives to achieve the goal. Geared to achieve comprehensive success in the second half of the class, I have decided to put my attitude and priorities right. I believe it all begins with me. Nobody was born perfect; instead each and every successful individual began from a point. I, therefore, believe that I can also make it to be the best writer in the world. As a result, I have promised to read widely and wildly in preparation for the next term. I hope my efforts shall not be in vain but instead shall sharpen my skills to the next level. Dales The beauty of the scenery of the Youlgreave village in Derbyshire is unbelievable. I had never been to the gorgeous rural community before. However, mum’s glamorous and attractive depiction of the parish as a home of natural beauty often aroused my anxiety. As a result, I gradually developed a far-fetched desire to have a personal experience and a clear view of the Promised Land. For that reason, when I heard that my class was to visit the village, I was as blissful as a creepy-crawly in a hearth rug; perhaps the most happy in the class. Certainly, I was not going to sleep on the frivolous night before the D-day of pure magic. Just to ensure that everything was in place, I decided to pack my clothes in my travel bag. In addition, I was not going to put on any other dress other than the best outfit in my closet. My younger brother, James, could not believe that I was going for a trip to Dales. He was also an admirer of the virtually remarkably attractive village. Perhaps he felt jealous. However, he knew I could not carry him with me and even if I would, I am sure he could not have put up with the large company of my classmates. On that wonderful morning, I woke up earlier than anybody else at home. I took a cold bath and dressed up in my favorite outfit. A few minutes later, mum got up from bed and immediately headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the family. She was surprised to find me already dressed. She is always the first to get up from bed. She wakes up at around 5.00 am to prepare breakfast and clean the compound. However, to find me awake that early on that particular day was certainly untainted mystery. She had a reason to be that surprised. Mum is always a staunch cook; to me, she is the best chef in the world. So when she brought the breakfast to the table, I could actually guess how delicious it was going to be. Mum beckoned me over with a wave to join her in the kitchen to help carry the sweat smelling food to the dining hall. The dining table was pleasantly arranged and within a few minutes; everybody sat around the table. James, my apparent admirer, sat next to me while mum and dad sat on the opposite edge of the table. The meal was extraordinarily mouth-watering. Perhaps mum prepared with a target of making me happy on my best day. Of course, she had succeeded. A few minutes later, I took off to the school compound where we had purposed to meet. I was not going to take any chance or else I would miss the extremely imperative experience. School was a walking-distance away. As a result, I was confident I would be there within a few minutes. I ran as fast as a deer. At around 6.00 am, everybody was in class waiting for the school buses to arrive. From the looks on their faces, each one of my classmates was equally happy. Small groups of about five to ten students gathered everywhere in the school bus stop. Each and every person was eager to share with others what they knew about Dales. People like me who did not anything about the said fantastic land had to keep quiet and listen to others. Sheila, my best friend, had a large crowd gathered around her. I chose to join her group. I could not wait to see the village for myself. The buses soon arrived, and we took off. The journey was long, but we did not care so much because of joy and sheer ecstasy that we had. There was every kind of speculations among the students on the diverse depictions of Derbyshire. Sheila portrayed the by then apparently unseen piece of land as a haven of gorgeousness and natural magnificence. Her descriptions of our destination worsened my anxiety. Three hours later, we were in Derbyshire. I promised to stick with my friend Sheila, who is a native of the pretty village, throughout the visit. At the Dales village, just as I had always heard before, most of the ground was entirely covered in limestone; plain grounds, hilly areas and valleys all included. This unusual feature practically spiced the apparent beauty of the village. In accordance with Sheila’s explanations, the grass had utterly changed color from green to pale as a result of the excess limestone. Nonetheless, the grass still looked healthy. Comparing this place to my home environment was practically out of the question. Although some of the regions were planes, a big section of the beautiful land was covered in the wide, beautiful Lathkill valley. Furthermore, other areas were characterized with exceptionally tall and rugged hills. I had to admit that neither mum nor Sheila had been wrong in their depiction of Dales Village. It was exceptionally pleasurable and pleasant walking through the valley. My friend, Sheila, who is a native of the village, walked us through the valley. We tirelessly navigated the vast area through incredibly low hills as well as high ones to Cales Dale, an exceptionally woody and bushy part of the village. Cales Dale was extremely green. Perhaps that is the reason why everybody professed that Dales is an asylum of natural beauty. Till today, I do not know of any other place as green as dales. To top it all off, the flimsy looking Cales Dale appeared to be perfectly plain from a distance. As we moved further into the vastness of the landscape, other tiny terra firma features became clearer and clearer. A number of attractive, natural rocky protrusions featured on the vast floor of the valley. In addition, vegetation including grasses and shrubs became more and more patent. The gigantic trees and shrubs within the valley were all covered in mosses and other minuscule organisms of that exacting nature. Perhaps that is the key reason why the air was so fresh within the Dales village of Derbyshire. Unquestionably, I would not prefer the suffocating air of the town environment to this breathtaking and stunning atmosphere. It would be difficult to convince me to leave this astonishing place for home. We finally arrived at the fantastic valley bottom. It was an exceptionally fascinating familiarity. The extraordinarily beautiful serene rocks situated on the floor of the valley carefully filtered incredibly clear and tasty water from the hill tops. The clear water flowed gently and slowly through a number of equally perfect streams. I sincerely loved the valley as dry as it was. As we walked further into the valley, we found other new but extremely attractive features that I had not seen before throughout my life but instead only heard of in geography classes. Waterfalls and spurs stood in exceptionally strategic positions to complement the implicit beauty of the scenery. They reminded me of Mr. Dean, my elementary school geography teacher. Mr. Dean had made the subject look so ordinary yet so complicated. If truth be told, it is the old man’s influence that made me drop History, my then favorite subject, and specialized in geography. It is not that he taught so well. However, he described geographical features with a lot of enthusiasm. One would have thought that the features were right in front of him or perhaps behind the classrooms. Every student fell in love with his mode of teaching. After walking through the valley flooring for a period of time not less than an hour, we were to move to the next place. As a means of enhancing our theoretical class knowledge of Cultural and Social Studies, we were directed to visit the various homesteads in the Dales village and conduct a research on their way of life. We were each provided with a set of survey papers, which contained a number of diverse semi structured analysis questions on myriad sociopolitical, l and economic aspects of life. Youthful members of the community whom we found around helped us to fill the questionnaires and to answer relevant questions. On the other hand, elder members of the society proved to be of equal benefit to us. They gave us an extremely warm welcome. In addition, the elders of the parish offered to give us all the information that we requested for. The old men, in particular, had a lot to share with us pertaining to the community’s historical occurrences as well as cultural and social beliefs. They also explained to us, in details, how Dales attracted thousands of tourists and enthusiasts every year. Night was beckoning and we were preparing to leave the Greenland for home. Sheila, however, insisted on taking us to her home. None of us objected. We, therefore, unanimously agreed to persuade our teacher to let her sympathy to lie with our quest and we succeeded.
