Profile Ahmed From his childhood, I am told, Ahmed has been so inquisitive and as curious as a cat. At some point, he even tied to make his own wings from large feathers out of curiosity to know how it felt to fly in the air like a bird. Given his curiosity and willingness to take risks as a way of seeing his dreams come true, Ahmed has built himself a life that everyone would admire. At only 30 years, Ahmed is an icon in his small community in the suburbs of a barely known city. he is a darling for all and most of his colleagues have recommended that he should join politics in order to further his dream of an equal society in which there are not significant differences between the rich and the poor, men and women Christians and Muslims and races amongst many other platforms in which segregation and discrimination thrive in the present day. Most people refer to him as the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ but Ahmed does not necessarily see himself as a savior passé. He sees himself like any other citizen who wants nothing but the best for not just himself but for everyone else around him. According to the few descriptions of Ahmed, one can already tell that this 30 year old is not just ambitious for himself but also to his entire society. He is the sales and marketing manager at a small company that manufactures chocolates, yoghurts and other milk-related products in the small city. Surprisingly, he is a trained lawyer but opted to deviate from law into sales and marketing of food after practicing for precisely two and a half years. He reached this decision after realizing that he did not make as much friends as a lawyer as compared to the number of friends he could make if he did something else. At one point as a practicing lawyer, his client, who had asked for a divorce, compelled him to conceal some banks accounts so that the other partner would not get a share of money contained therein after they had separated. He did not do that. He revealed those accounts during a hearing and their contents were thus shared amongst both the wife and husband. However, he was not conscious of the fact that he had breached the lawyer-client confidentiality clause as he tried to act ethically. This did not, however, make him quit his job as a lawyer. He could not take it anymore when another client, who was charged for child molestation and abuse, sought for his representation in court even after confessing to him that he had actually committed the crime. He presented the recording of the confession in court as if he was the complainant and that was the last time he ever stepped foot in a court of law. Now as a sales and marketing manager, Ahmed feels that he does not have to compromise either his ethical values or principles, or violate confidentiality clauses so as to put food on the table for his wife and two lovely daughters. All he has to worry about is how to introduce his company’s products to new markets. This he does with absolute precision and expertise because he is the best salesperson I have ever met. I happen to have shared an even with him in which his company was launching a new product. As the manager in charge of sales and marketing, he was given the chance to officiate the ceremony. He walked to the platform with utmost composure and said, “Buy two and get one free…that is the sales strategy of a not-so-good product. But for our new product, buy one for the price of one because it is a just-so-good product that we will not afford to maintain its quality if gave out for free.” Then he goes back to his seat. Contrary to my expectations, the crowd in front of him roared with applause. Amazingly, the company’s new cheese that was launched on that day has become everyone‘s talk in not that Ahmed’s town but also its environs. Ahmed works twice as hard as worker-bees. He is a go-getter and is never deterred from meeting his targets even if it means losing a tooth for it. He is like a good-lack-charm that embeds success on virtually everything that he placed his magic hand on. He is the patron for the music club in the school in which her two daughters learn. Ever since he was unanimously elected as the patron of the music club, the students sing like birds. No one is exactly aware of how he pulls this off but the music club has won three consecutive zonal competitions in his tenure; the one thing that was a big dream before. When it comes to public relations, Ahmed is such a good image to his society that he could literally turn ‘water into wine.’ On most occasions, he is seen as the frontier of every demands made by the town to its city administrations. He once led his neighbors in a peaceful demonstration in which they protested the continued pollution of city’s river by some manufacturing companies within and outside the city. When asked to present a formal complaint in the board meeting of one of the companies, he stood and said, “Blame it (the riots) on mother nature, not the people. She is hurting and so are we, all of us in this room.” That statement alone was enough to compel all the stakeholders to review their waste-disposal policies. As he gets home from work every evening, Ahmed is given a welcoming hug at the door by his wife and the world feels envious of her. If only the world and all its flora and fauna could be in a position to offer that hug then Ahmed would sink into the beauty and happiness of what the world has to offer every day. He is not just a darling to the world and its life but also its matter. If given a chance too, I could dedicate every evening to giving him a pat on the back for making not just me bust also, I am certain, many other souls have a different view of humanity. Ahmed would certainly win a noble price if all inhabitants of the world would see him wake up every morning and drive his 1967 Volkswagen to work with all that enthusiasm. They would certainly appreciate nature when they see him execute his daily mandates like though his entire life depended on them. Read More
