? Your PROMPT: It is a popular belief that most people fear public speaking more than death, but that is contrary to my case. Public speaking and theability to communicate in general was an element that was always inside me that needed to be cultivated. Communications is my ideal major because it allows me to harness my thoughts into powerful words that allow me to propagate for a certain cause. I used to be autistic because of my family situation as my parents got divorced when I was 3 and I was forced to accept my step ma, the woman who used to treat me nicely and suddenly changed when she got her first son. I became reticent since my dad was so busy with his business ,and my real mom did not have time to nurture me. The oppression in my childhood made me feel suffocated. I was not able to communicate with other people until I joined the extracurricular performance school. Through the performance classes and the process of rehearsing a play, I learned to communicate with others and to integrate myself into the surrounding people. I ended up being chosen for an important role in that play which made me feel confident of whom I am and comfortable to show myself. Also, after learning to communicate with people, I was able to handle my school life and make my family situation better. I started to express my emotion and feeling instead of hide them inside. In the communications major, many attributes are needed to be a good student. Two of the main attributes that many people do not understand about communications is that it requires self-motivation and leadership. When I was appointed as a group leader for our group project in the drama class that I took in community college, I had to embrace that role as leader. The task was tough because I had to motivate everyone to do their roles and often meet on campus or outside in order to ensure our success especially since most Asian students are shy and passive according to my upbringing However, I never allowed that to become a barrier for myself or for my team. The day finally arrived; my group and I were the first ones to present. I took the “center stage” and delivered a speech about the character analysis full of passion and determination. The whole class was shocked since they had never seen an Asian student so passionate when delivering a speech. This is due to because I was always a shy student, an introvert that was passive and never raised my hand until the teacher called on me. Hence, the popular perception of the class was that I lacked confidence, charisma and a capability to lead with authority. When I delivered my speech in drama class, I truly was aware of my talent. I realized that with hard work, I can follow my dreams. This itself became a testament for me to not only embrace my inner ability to lead, captivate and inspire others. MY PROMPT: Most people fear public speaking more than death. In my case, that is a complete the contrary. Communications is an ideal major for me because it allows me to harness my thoughts into powerful words that can energize people and renovate thinking. Public speaking and communications in general was something that was always inside me that needed to be exposed. I realized my true potential as a public speaker and understood that my hard work would allow me to be successful at it. One facet that many people do not understand about communications is that it requires self-motivation and leadership. Throughout high school and college, I really embraced my role as a leader, which allowed me to embrace my fate as a communications major. For example, in history class during my high school, I was appointed as a group leader. The task was tough because I had to motivate everyone to do their roles and often stayed after school in order to ensure our success. However, I never allowed that to become a barrier for myself or for my team. The day finally arrived; my group and I were the first ones to present. I took the “center stage” and delivered a speech about the colonist revolt full of passion and determination. The whole class was shocked since they had never seen me so passionate in my delivery. Although I did actively participate in my class, I was never deemed as a ‘leader’ type of a student. This is when I realized my true calling of being a communication major. From the point onwards, my teacher told me to try out for the speech team. This was a trust testament to my faith because it was something unorthodox for me. I recalled trying out for the speech team and doing my first even. That was the focal point in my life as I realize that public speaking can become my forte. As a member of the team, I worked with a dynamic group of hard working individuals who tremendously enhanced my learning curve. I made mistakes and lost some competitions, but this experience was vital for my growth. That is where I learned a lot about myself. In essence, my experiences and even my mistakes were essential part of my life. During this stage of my life, I truly felt the value of collaboration, team work, leadership, focus, and a true passion to be the best. Thus, this is where I learned about “stand and deliver.” I learned to harness clarity that was never exposed within me. I learned that clarity and focus are essential that contribute to an individual thriving in a stressful environment. The characteristic of a great individual is not only their leadership abilities, but their personality to achieve phenomenal focus under bad times. My first experience was a huge relief for me and gave me self- confidence to excel in my studies. A huge achievement for not only myself, pursuing communications will be the “icing on the cake” that will make my family proud that immigrated to this country for providing me with the best education they can. Undoubtedly, my thirst to acquire new knowledge has been a huge motivation in midst of adversities as a student. During these years, I became fond of Steve Jobs, an individual that fascinated me. I recalled him saying, “Stay hungry and stay foolish.” That become my motto in every challenge I embraced, knowing that my will to succeed will overcome fear in any given situation. PROMPT 2: One of the personal qualities that has been the hallmark of my life is my work ethic. My work ethic has been a single factor that has allowed me to truly reach new heights. My zeal to be successful through my hard work has allowed me to surpass new heights and achieve impossible feats. It was my hard work ethic that guided me to compete in varsity soccer, not my actual talent. Throughout the years, I realized that hard work will always take you further in life than talent. As a philosophical individual, I used to listen to inspirational videos that emphasized work ethic. It was evident that my hard work was also one of the qualities that colleagues and peers admired. This desire and the pursuit to be best was the driving force that not only was a channel for motivation, but it allowed me to reach success. Since they were from a wealth background, they did not make it their objective to go the extra mile for their passion. On the other hand, I had very humble beginnings and realized the importance of hard work from early age. I remembered waking up early, helping my dad with the chores, going to school along with soccer and volunteering. I hard work quality is the pinnacle of success because success does not come easy. It is clear that an individual must want to be successful more than actually living. My experience throughout my life made me a man I am today. I have delivered under bad a circumstance that has been the pinnacle of my success and hard work. I have realized that I may not have a God-given intellect, but my hard work and my desire to succeed in any cost propelled me to achieve success in my life. My best quality is my supreme work ethic, my attention to detail, and my ability to be calm and cool under adversity. Over the years, I have accumulated these qualities and skills that allowed me to nurture these qualities I acquired. I acknowledge the fact that I will face many adversities in my life. However, I know that my hard work and dedication will allow me to fulfill even the toughest challenges that lie ahead. My work ethic truly defines me and has been the single factor for defeating all my fears and doubts throughout my life. I have never felt as holistic in my self-esteem in my life as I face now. My achievements have been a reminder to why I was born to be a leader and a dedicated professional, granted I get an opportunity. Obtaining an admission into this university will be a huge achievement for not only myself, pursuing financial statistics will be the “icing on the cake” that will make my family proud that immigrated to this country for providing me with the best education they can. Undoubtedly, my thirst to acquire new knowledge has been a huge motivation in midst of adversities as a student. Read More
