In many philosophical stories, the character is less or more his ideas. It does not change the character but gives him a different creation. In another perspective ideas deepen and fight out and build via character and the character builds via his encounters. Pi is thought to be of the first kind. From the book towards the end he is portrayed as wise and smart and develops like a character but it is thought first priority of Martel is ideas. Some of ideas that he adopts and encounters will be clarified and discussed in this pare.

“You might think I lost all hope at that point. I did. And as a result I perked up and felt much better.”(Martel, pp. 130) Pi had a childhood that can be rated to be amongst the most magical. At his childhood, he reads and embraces religious and rich stories that provide dimension and meaning to life. In Pi’s investigation during an interview with the Japanese, he gives a more admirable dimension of his point in the sea. Pi then gives another version which is realistic though eventually less appealing to his questionnaires and himself.

The novel portrays Pi’s character, dependency on love stories and show difficulties in putting trust on his events. Though the story jumps in time, it traces maturation and development of PI. Belief of Pi in God makes him inspired and helps him endure in sea. His teacher challenges the faith he has in God. This makes him realize that belief has a strong positive power. Motivated to know more, he practices Islam and Christianity, realizing that both of religions share base which is love of high power.

Obviously Christians do not share views of Pi’s stories, though it engages philosophically. When Pi starts meeting the catholic priest, Pi tells him that there is no sense in God who loves to send his son who was innocent to sacrifice for others’ sins. The priests tell him not to worry of why God did that rather he should appreciate that the love God had for this world made him do exactly what he did. The implication in a clearer sense is `God is a supernatural and he thinks different from normal people.

Moving from the Pi’s pantheism heterodoxy, it is an awkward way for a Christian to see things. Besides, it is plausible that Pi’s adventure second version is a true one. It is a story he made to overcome life he went through in the boat. It is believable that Pi invented a story to pain and get transcendent meaning. The Japanese could not believe his myth. To them there was no sense at all. Therefore they demanded for a true version that was believable. They say “we just don’t believe that there was a tiger in your life boat” (Martel, pp. 294). Pi believes that God made him escape in spite of what stood before him and God gave him a tiger to have something to look after, to make him hopeful.

According to his versions of the story pi might have been telling truth of what took place, though told lies to Japanese to show mercy as he saw that they disagreed with miraculous tiger story or was an action to deliver him. Another perspective is that Pi might have unconsciously created a myth to hide an incidence that occurred in the boat from him, though confessed to the Japanese to disburden himself. After which he retreated unconsciously in believing the story as it assisted him live with it including knowing what humans like him were capable of.

Pi knows that his myth tale about the tiger and its symbolism on himself, human kind and nature. Although he decides to live by it as he knows that there might be facts confection though they explain rooted truths of life, God and universe in a manner that humans can relate to.
