Task Social is a that has been debated extensively and profoundly in America. Social is not only a in America, but it is a situation faced by each individual globally. Despite how people circumvent the subject of social class, it has proven to have many impacts in day-to-day activities. In A Touchy Subject, Paul Fussel analyzes three social classes in America: the upper, middle and lower class. In this essay, I will give a critical response to the article and offer my standpoint.I agree with the author in the assertion that people do not want to accept the existence in social class especially in America.

Some people are even irritated when the subject arises, fearing to discuss and explore its implications. It is true that social class can be revealed with the amount of anger that someone shows when the matter is discussed (Fussel). People of high social class are interested in discussing the subject because they feel noticed and praised, but those from the middle class shy away from the subject because they avoid being dropped from the class. It is noted that those from the bottom class do not care when the subject is raised because they often cannot change their situation.

The author is unquestionably exact when he says that a person’s social class can be noted by the way he defines the subject. People at the bottom believe that social class is about money, those in the middle believe that education and type of work defines ones status and those at the top believed that thought, style and behavior are crucial factors regardless of money and occupation (Fussel). This is evidenced in the contemporary culture where affluence determines social class. However, I find it contradicting when the author suggests that those at the bottom do not mind if the subject is raised.

I suppose that any normal person at the bottom would feel low-grade if the subject was addressed. In addition, I wonder how fear would suggest that a person is in the middle stage. People fear and shy away when being interrogated. Overall, social class is a subject that affects people, only that they do not want to accept. It should be addressed with a lot of seriousness and necessity it deserves. Work citedFussel, Paul. A Touchy Subject (Social Class in America). PBS.ORG. December 1, 2001. Web.
