Full Knowing Me My is Kevin Tjhung but all of my friends simply call me Tjhung. I was born on the 6th of December in 1995 in Jakarta, Indonesia. I am of Chinese-Indonesian descent, a minority in Indonesia. Nevertheless, I grew up in a big family with a lot of relatives from both my father’s and mother’s sides so I always felt I belonged to a huge community. My father is the oldest of six siblings and my mother is the third oldest of seven siblings so you could perhaps imagine the size of their families. Although I have only one older sister, we are closely knit with our relatives so we seldom had boring days. As a businessman, my father is always busy together with my mother who assists him in the details of his transactions. Despite their busy schedules though, our parents always make time for the family and include me and my sister in their travels every December. Therefore, I have come to love the month of December because I am not only able to be with my parents but I also get the chance of visiting other places. I have already been to different parts of the world such as France, Singapore, Germany, China, Seoul, Japan, Korea, England, USA, and Canada. The interesting places often make family vacations extra special and wonderful because I get to visit beautiful places and taste different delicious foods. Travelling around the world has therefore become my dream because I am very interested in exploring other cultures and meeting people from different backgrounds. As an afterthought, I think my father intentionally instilled in me the importance of travel to a businessman. Looking back, I could see how he has guided and molded to becoming a good businessman through the education that was given to me which I believe would really be very beneficial. I graduated from Gandhi Memorial International School in my hometown. As an Indonesian, I fluently speak my native language which is Bahasa Indonesia. Coming from Chinese descent as well, I am able to speak Mandarin because I am forced to speak the language with my grandparents. In addition, the school I attended also taught us the language. As an international school, Gandhi Memorial taught most of our subjects using the English language. This enabled me to use the language well. As an aspiring businessman, I consider my communication skills as an advantage because I know I could communicate well with other people. Knowing the benefits of education, I entered Pasadena City College on the Fall of 2013 to pursue higher education. My travels proved to be helpful as I lived in a new environment and away from my parents because they made me resilient adapting to a new culture. With my one year stay in the school, I never encountered difficult problems with regard socializing and adapting to the school. I believe the two more years that I need to complete before transferring to a university will be equally satisfactory. Currently, I am majoring in business but when I go to the university of my choice preferably USC; I plan to major in entrepreneurship. As for my other interests, I like to play sports such as badminton. Badminton is a very popular sport in Indonesia so I came to love it especially when I am playing with my friends who share the same passion with me. As an individual, I also have goals and dreams. Perhaps it is a cliché to hear people say that their dream in life is to be successful but that is really my goal. Nevertheless, I do not view success as simply having lots of money, houses, cars and other valuable commodities. Instead, I view success as having the ability to help myself, my family and other people. I dream of having money in abundance so I can give my parents a place to stay without working for their food when they are already old. In addition to that, I also want to have a family of my own whom I can share the joys of my success. I want to have a beautiful wife whom I could lavish with my wealth and love. Having children is definitely in my list of goals because I want to extend the legacy of my ability to help other people through my children. Lastly, I also want to be able to have a company of my own so I could help provide jobs to other people. This is my humble opinion of changing the world, to give chance to others to have a decent job that will satisfy their needs as well as their wants. Moreover, I want to work with church members in making this world a better place. When defining my characteristics, I could say I am hard-working, friendly, talkative, but I am also a listener. Industry has always been taught to me as a child. My father has been a very good teacher in this aspect because he did not simply tell me things but he showed me how to be hard-working. Since I have always seen my parents busy with their work, I learned to busy myself with my studies, reading, making home works and other assignments so I will not disappoint my parents. With my family background and my travels, I learned to be friendly. I am able to befriend new acquaintances even in short periods of time. The same reasons perhaps influenced my talkativeness as well. I can barely keep myself quiet whenever I am with other people especially when I am with my friends and family. However, I am also a good listener, knowing when to stop talking and give chances to others to express their feelings and thoughts, too. I consider myself a pretty normal person but sometimes, my friends think I am unusual because I am too concerned about cleanliness and being organized. I really cannot stand it if my apartment is not organized. I personally do the cleaning of my apartment because I want to put things in places where I could remember them to be whenever I need them. Moreover, I am not usually satisfied with how others may clean my apartment so I dedicate most of my time cleaning and fixing my place. Sometimes, I find myself overdoing this so that I have no more energy by the end of the day to do other tasks. For this reason, I make it a point that I keep my place clean and neat so I can work on my school assignments first before I finally clean my apartment again and call it a day. In addition, I also cannot stand sitting around when there is work to be done. Even when someone is assigned to a task, I feel the urge of keeping myself busy because I cannot stand having last minute quick fixes. For instance, last spring break, I went with my friends to Hawaii. I was told that everything is already arranged but I was not quite satisfied so I volunteered to get involved in making sure that everything is fine. As it turned out, there were still things that needed to be fixed. Anyway, I could perhaps say in closing that I cook well and that might be unusual, too. Read More
