Is Google Making Us Stupid? Is Google Making Us Stupid? Yes, it is! Nicholas Carr clearly brings out an aspect of overdependence on technology and how it has made people victims of their own destinies. His strong imagination serves as an important voice to the current world because it reveals the negative effects behind technology awesomeness. There are many advantages of accessing lots of information on the internet. However, it is slowly eroding the ancient, most relevant and important skills in people; reading and creative thinking.

People easily lose their concentration immediately they start reading a book (Carr 151). Their minds get so involved in arguments and often seem disturbed by the presence of gadgets and thus develop an excuse by doing something of less importance to the brain. Many people have an access to immediate information; an indicator they read lots of materials in the current world as compared to the 1970s. This evolution is because of the use of mobile phones when sending text messages. The challenge is the ability to make clear interpretations, maintain mental connectivity that can resist distraction from the surrounding objects.

From Carr’s explanation, people are increasingly adopting a hybrid orality in which people prefer to skim through written documents. He attributes this to “bouncing” from one activity to another, have poor listening skills and are quick to draw conclusion even where critical understanding is not sort after (Carr 158).ConclusionCritics may argue that Google is not actually making human beings stupid because it gives room for new innovations and access to knowledge. The fact remains that it kills the human aspect and causes overdependence on technology.

It makes people victims and poor communicators because there is little face-to-face interaction. The reading and interpretation abilities get eroded in the long run.Work citedCarr, Nicholas.
