In the past, slaves were employed wherever extensive manual work was required. Slaves used to life the bricks, erect the walls and plough the agricultural fields. Today, all of these works have become mechanical. Bricks are lifted by boom-loaders, pre-cast walls are erected with the help of cranes and fertilizers are used to increase the crop yield. There was an age when there was no way to convey the message but post letters. The letters took many days, and in some cases, months to reach the destination.

The process was so time-consuming that often, the rapidly changing circumstances made the letter lose its significance. In many cases, an individual was sent letter to by his family in another country that his mother did not feel well. By the time, the individual received the letter, the mother had passed away. In addition to that, the sender had to pay a lot of money for the post in order to accommodate all the travelling expenses that the posting company would incur. Therefore, the communication was not only weak, but also costlier, ineffective and often useless.

There has occurred an altogether revolution in communication between those times and today. Today, people not only have the facility of getting their message received in a fraction of a second, but they are also able to see the other person while communicating with him/her. To make it all the more worthwhile, the communication is free of charge. . In the past, people had to travel for months and often years to do the trade, see their loved ones abroad or make pilgrimage. People hardly had any mechanical means of travelling.

Most people traveled in the form of caravans. They used cattle and animals to carry their luggage. Camels, donkeys and cows were frequently employed as the cart-drivers. The journey used to be very tiresome, inconvenient and often costly as the travelers had to arrange the food not only for themselves but also for their cattle. It was not unusual for a caravan to be looted by robbers and pirates. What took months to cover in the past now takes only few hours. Airplanes have made the journey time saving, convenient and comfortable.

Although tickets are not very cheap, yet the risk of getting looted is obviated. In addition to that, the cost of ticket includes all costs of food and facilities. Hence, technology has made traveling as a means of recreation rather than pain. Concluding, technology has changed the way people live. Technology has removed all obstructions in the flow of communication. Technology has made the traveling cost effective, convenient and enjoyable.
