Centre for Climate and Energy Solutions Institution Student Name Date Centre for Climate and Energy Solutions Introduction The (C2ES) Centre for Climate and Energy Solutions is a nonpartisan, non-profit, independent organization with its basis in Virginia (Arlington) promoting energy and climatic policies. The organization has significantly contributed to the climate change issues in the global. As much as its main contribution focuses in the energy generation, it has significantly contributed to the climatic issues and conservations. The policies are usually so strong and as a result they address avenues of providing energy globally and at the same time protecting the climate globally. It was launched in the year 2011. The company succeeded the PCGCC (Pew Center on Global Climate Change). The main mission of the organization is therefore providing energy to the communities of the globe but at the same time establish a climate that is very conducive not just today but some more years in future. C2ES works in a close association with stakeholders and policymakers in the promotion of effective and pragmatic national, international and state level policies[C2E11]. C2ES usually concentrates on contributing to the attempts of solving the energy and climate challenges as its vision. It concentrates to reaching its vision by putting missions in place. It does that by: Provision of impartial information in a timely manner together with an analysis of the economic, technological, scientific and the policy dimensions of the challenges of energy and climate. For instance there are carbon pollution standards resources and on extreme climate and weather change. Bringing businesses together, the policymakers, environmental community, as well as other stakeholders so as to achieve an understanding that is common and solutions of consensus[Gid09]. Examples in this case include collaborative efforts that accelerate plug-in electric vehicles deployment and a coalition that is broad and that supports using carbon dioxide that has been captured in the enhanced recovery of oil. Helping consumers and employees save money and energy hence reducing their carbon footprints via its make an Impact program (Hemmati & Röhr, 2007). The Pew Center finally produced about one hundred reports that are peer-reviewed together with a large collection of briefs and white papers in attempts of highlighting the several approaches that are needed to handle the changes in climate. In that sense it covered a variety of topics ranging from environmental impacts, economics, policy, technology, business and science[Dov05]. Regularly, The Pew Center testified in the Congress of the US at the same time meeting with other entities to share thoughts and ideas regarding climate change. It was as well engaged with businesses and governments in exploring and exploiting options for the climate agreement of post-2012. Global warming advocacy and climate change The C2ES has a vested interest on global warming as well. They know that there has been the warming of the global for a long time. The organization acknowledges that human activities and burning of oil and coal to be specific dramatically boost the heat-trapping gases within the atmosphere. Scientists argue that the global warming has increased with its trends really accelerated in recent years. Environmental risks, contemporary attract a lot of sustained attention from geographers who attempt to establish how the issues can be either mitigated or managed. How they are constructed socially as well as the conflicts they provoke politically. The climate change onset has posed environmental risks hence raising several debates. Sceptics, however, uphold that the evidence that exist concerning climate change and its effects is insufficient (Gunnarsson-Östling & Larsen, 2008). It is therefore hard, according to them to demonstrate that climatic changes outside the natural variability scope have taken or is going to take. According to IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) the evidence balance indicates that there exists a discernible influence of human in the climate globally. In 1999, for instance, the IPCC chairperson it is not a question of if the climate of the Earth will change any longer but rather when, by how much and where. In the same spirit, some people hold that changes will be incremental, within social control and gradual. The IPCC on the other hand mentions that changes that are significant in average temperatures globally and the conditions of regional climate are supposed to be expected. The organization went ahead to suggest that there may be unpredictable alterations conditions to the climatic system. The question concerning the way of addressing the tremendous climate change effects is as well an area of major concerns. It has as a result spawned negotiations internationally, public concerns, domestic strategies and international negotiations throughout the 90s. There have been very apparent challenges of governing the change in climate. The nation-states have struggled to make an international agreement and in the same respect establish domestic actions. The struggles are evident particularly in the contexts where the economic and environmental interests are considered to be conflicting. For instance Australia and the USA when there was a support withdrawal by the administration of Bush for the Kyoto Protocol gives an illustration that is very clear[Gru07]. The study of Beck that relates to the ‘risk society’ has a very large range. It touches on family and workplace as well as community and class, social movements, scientific laboratories together with the corridors of power (Thomas, 2008). There are several features that concern the climate change issue epitomizing the definition of Beck of the risk experience in a risk society (Beck, 1992). To start with, the climate change causes lie deeply within modernity. Apparently invisible and innocuous gases like carbon dioxide and methane that are emitted as development by-products change the atmosphere’s composition with consequences that are untold. With development by-products in this case we refer to the agriculture industrialization, increased consumption of energy and the growth of economy. Risks, in risk societies arise not because modernity lacks, as it might be conceived as a hazard associated with underdevelopment and poverty, but rather as the modernization side-effects. The global risk society risk society is usually beset by different risk categories including those made via development, those arising from a lack of improvement as well as those ensuing from situations of conflict[Bul01]. The global environment human alteration triggered the sixth big extinction event within the life’s history and as a result causing numerous changes in an organism’s global distribution. Such biodiversity changes ecosystem alteration processes and as a result causing changes in the ecosystems resilience to the change of environment. This therefore has consequences that are profound for the kind of services the human beings obtain from the ecosystem. The large societal and ecological biodiversity changes consequences should be minimized to some extent so as to preserve the options for the sake of future solutions to the environmental problems around the world. Human beings have, to a very large extent caused alterations to the global environment. As a result there have been tremendous changes in the biochemical cycles globally and at the same time transforming land causing enhancements in the biota mobility. The deforestation and 0combustion of fossil fuels have to a great extent increased the atmospheric carbon II oxide concentration by about thirty per cent within the last three centuries. Around half of the changes however occurred within the last forty years. The methane concentration alone has doubled not mentioning the increased concentration of the other gases within the atmosphere. The gases continuously cause pollution to not only the human life but also the ecosystem at large. The other living things like animals and plants have suffered extremely due to the gases. These gases are the main causes of the extreme global warming that is very common in the world today. It is speculated that within the next century the gases from the greenhouses could cause a very rapid change in the climate that the earth is yet to experience since the last glaciation’s end 18, 000 years ago. This could even take, perhaps, a much longer time than anyone could have expected[Bul01]. The nitrogen’s industrial fixation for the fertilizers together with the other human activities has increased the gaseous terrestrial fixation by double[Cha00]. The gaseous nitrogen is converted into forms that are naturally available. The nutrients run off from urban systems and agricultural has tremendously increased a lot of folds within the developed Earth’s river basins and as a result causing big ecological changes in the coastal zones and in estuaries. Human beings have made transformations of about 40-50% of the land surface that was ice free hence changing the forests, wetlands and the changing prairies into urban and agricultural systems. The human beings causes dominance either indirectly or directly, almost a third of the net lands primary productivity. At the same time, humans harvest fish and as a result using approximately 8% of the productivity of the ocean. 54% of the fresh available water is used with this being projected to increase by 70% by 2050. Lastly, people’s mobility transports organisms across geographical barriers that have been keeping the earths biotic regions separated. As a result, several ecologically fundamental animal and plant species from many areas have availed in the historic times. These changes have collectively made alterations in the earth’s biological diversity. A lot of species have been removed from that human influences dominate. Extinction is usually considered a natural process; however it can occur at a rate that is unnaturally rapid as human activities consequences. When there are changes in human behaviour and policy the effects of humans on the surrounding hence continue to alter biodiversity. The change due to the land use is projected to be having a global impact that is veer large by 2100 on the biodiversity. This will hence be followed by nitrogen deposition, the fluctuation, CO2 concentrations, climate change and species introduction[Cha00]. Advocacy The purpose of C2ES according to its former president Claussen has changed tremendously over time with the change in the political landscape[Har13]. The organization however advocates for the embracing of natural gas as a key way of lowering the emission of green gas. This belief hence sets the position of the organization apart from viscerally groups as well as the ideologies that opposed natural gas use. This is because the gases are said to be dirty fossil fuels that people should get beyond. However, the epithets don’t add up to the public discussion that is intelligent and at the same time thankful. The motto of the Centre for Climate and Energy Solutions focuses on the working together for both economy and the environment. It works for the environment in a way that it focuses on ensuring that the climate is conducive. A conducive climate definitely leads to environment that is very conducive. In line with the economy, the organization focuses on the encouragement of energy production. Environmental problems have many similarities in a lot of different ways to the problems in the society in entirety this is in accordance with the view of social constructivism[Han95]. The green world inevitably view the world in terms of the how mature relates to the society. It holds that the root cause of environmental problems is the fact that humans lack interest on nature[Pep96]. Energy production directly affects the economy of whichever society. A lot of activities that boost the economy require sufficient energy to run efficiently. The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions therefore advocates for the establishment of environments that are conducive. The views and policies that the organization advocates for therefore abides by the environmental requirements which is scientifically relevant and viable. The organization supports its views by putting their policies in action. Over the past fifteen years the organization has published at least one hundred reports that consistently ranked as among the top think tanks in the environment. The organization also established the BELC (Business Environmental Leadership Council) which was the largest coalition of the major corporations in the US. It has as well agreed that the government policies that are mandatory are required so as to the emissions of greenhouse gas[Kra13]. There have been several proposals of how to reduce the climate crisis and use of renewable energy has been also considered as a good option. Shehzad (2011) interviewed Barbara Unmüßig, the Heinrich Böll foundation president about the same. The president mentioned that the severe energy crisis in Pakistan can be best solved by renewable energy. Pakistan expected Germany to assist in helping them meet their goal. The use of renewable according to her is a solution the global threats on climate change (Shehzad, 2011). Conclusion In conclusion, a lot of climatic changes that happen globally result from, to a large extent, the human activities. The impacts are as well becoming common and they are expected to worsen in a few decades to come unless swift actions are taken. Fixing the climate change issues requires a broad policies and technologies array. The Climate Change and Energy Solutions has been a leading wave of force that seeks to boost the environmental conservation as well as the energy generation. It targets to improve communities via energy production and at the same time conserve the environment and as a result regulating the climate change.
