Any human being at any one point in his or her life has pondered questions on what is right or what is wrong. For a nurse, it is crucial for her to understand ethics because they encounter many ethical problems.

Because of the same nature of their work, there are specific moral questions and problems of life and death. Understanding of ethics can help the nurse to understand difficult cases of the issues that are at hand, and also the possible courses of action that needs the right action. At times, ethics and law may be in conflict and this makes the entire situation to be very complicated(Aitamaa et al,2010,p.470). It is worth noting that the law and ethics are not the same but some often overlap and should be taken into account when making difficult decisions.

The law describes the minimum standards of acceptable behavior while the ethics delineate the highest moral standards of behavior. It is paramount to distinguish the moral and ethical dilemma. Under normal circumstances, the term ethics and morality are synonymous. However, some philosophers differentiate between ethics and morality using the term morality to designate the conventional beliefs in a particular society. An “ethical dilemma” then might also be considered a complex problem on a more theoretical approach.
