I have eaten at many different restaurants in the Central Texas area. There is a plethora of international restaurants that have been derived from many other countries and cultures. These restaurants range from the simple and inexpensive mom- and pop-type restaurants, to the many very elaborate and exotic types of restaurants that have more of a festive atmosphere. Of these, many will tend to charge you a considerable amount more for your meal. You may need to take some time to decide which one of these restaurants that you want to eat at, because there is a broad selection to choose from. No matter which restaurant that you may happen to prefer, they all offer their traditional cuisines from every different nationality and culture on the planet. I have tried an uncountable number of Chinese, Mexican, seafood, and Italian restaurants, as well as themed steakhouse restaurants, such as Outback Steak House and Texas Roadhouse. From Waco, all the way down to Austin and beyond, I have made more stops at these restaurants along the way than I can count. I have eaten so many variations of food that have originated from so many different countries in the seven plus years that I have lived in the Central Texas area that I have considered myself to have officially been on a world tour. Out of the many different restaurants that I have eaten at in the Central Texas area, I would have to say that Taqueria Mexico is the best restaurant of them all, because it provides a fantastic hometown atmosphere, together with unbelievably courteous and friendly service, along with fantastic traditional Mexican cuisine, all at a reasonable price that anyone can afford. First and foremost, and this is very important, as you approach the restaurant parking area, you look at the outside of the restaurant by the front door. What do you notice? There are no long waiting lines. In fact, every time that I have been to Taqueria Mexico, and I have been there many times, there has not been any waiting line at all. It is a real turn-off for me when I have a plan to go to some restaurant to eat, but when I get there I see a long waiting line. I have seen restaurants with so many people in the waiting line that they are standing outside on the sidewalk and in the parking lot. They stand outside of the restaurant, drinking beer and listening to music, like they are out there having a tailgate party or something; they could have just as well brought their own grill. Keep in mind that these waiting lines do not stretch out in just one direction. The waiting lines at some of these other restaurants are ridiculous sometimes. As you look at the front door of some of these other restaurants, you will often see waiting lines that stretch out in at least two directions; I have seen waiting lines that stretch all the way around the corner of the building on both the left and the right sides. There are so many people waiting in line outside at other restaurants that if I did not know any better, I could almost swear that the fire alarm must have went off inside the building. Luckily, I have not had to meet up with that problem at Taqueria, Mexico. One reason why I believe that Taqueria Mexico is the best restaurant in the Central Texas area is because it possesses a comfortable, relaxed Southwestern style atmosphere. As you enter Taqueria Mexico, you get your first aroma of the unbelievably delicious Mexican cuisine that is being prepared in that establishment. An attendant, whom will be your table attendant while you are dining at Taqueria Mexico, will quickly and graciously greet you. The table attendants are prompt, and they all have a calm, courteous, and friendly demeanor about them that goes along great with the way that they are dressed in their traditional, comfortable Southwestern style uniforms. As your table attendant shows you to your table, you can hear the traditional Mexican music that is being played on the old classic-style jukebox. You never know what kind of music that they will be playing in the Taqueria Mexico restaurant. They have a wide variety of music that ranges from traditional Mexican Salsa style music, to oldies but goodies music, and to the music of the very talented and, unfortunately, deceased pop-star singer, Selena. When you take a look at the decor that is found inside of Taqueria Mexico, you will notice the memorabilia from the days of Emillio Zapata and Pancho Villa, two of the most famous military Generals of old Mexico, together with the buck deer head mounts, and the traditional Mexican sombreros; all are symbolic of the old traditional southwest. To make a long story short, Taqueria Mexico restaurant is branded and embellished with a combination of the old time Southwestern outlaw rough-rider history from traditional old Mexico, and an upbeat modern day Southwestern flair. Oh yes, and let us not forget the food. The food at Taqueria Mexico is definitely the most delicious food that I have found in the Central Texas area. The corn chips and chilled salsa alone put all other appetizers from other restaurants to shame. That is what I start out with on a hot summer day: corn chips, chilled salsa, and a Coca-Cola. The corn chips are homemade right there in the Taqueria Mexico restaurant, and they are salted to just the right perfection. Taqueria Mexico has other appetizers that are just as good, if not better, as the corn chips and salsa. They have incredible beef fajita nachos, and outstanding bean and cheese nachos, both with and without jalapeno peppers, whichever you prefer. They make a fantastic shrimp cocktail that ranks up in the jumbo-size category. It is like a meal in itself. It’s time for the entrée. I can safely say that I have been through the entire menu at Taqueria Mexico, and I do not have any complaints about any of the traditional Mexican cuisine that I have eaten there. But, as with everything in this world, some things stand out more than others. When it comes to traditional Mexican food, my favorite is the traditional Mexican taco. I cannot stay away from tacos. Taqueria Mexico has a wide selection of tacos. Their extremely delicious tacos include shrimp tacos, beef fajita tacos, beef tongue tacos, and beef cheek meat tacos, just to name a few; all garnished with onion, cilantro, lime juice, and red sauce. You will not leave from Taqueria Mexico still hungry. The table attendants at Taqueria Mexico ensure that you always have your refills on your drinks, as many as you like; and they are very generous with the corn chips and chilled salsa as well. Be careful when you place your order, or you might end up having to take a lot of your meal home with you in a box. Taqueria Mexico is one of the very few places left on the planet where you can get a very decent meal for somewhere between five to ten dollars; that is including the tip. They do serve a breakfast at Taqueria Mexico that will allow you to get by for even cheaper than five dollars. I don’t know about you, but where they serve large over-stuffed tacos for a dollar and fifty cents each, I’m there. The food is great. The price is right. How could you go wrong? If you are looking for a fantastic restaurant in the Central Texas area that has a great atmosphere and terrific food at a price that will not cause your checking account to go into overdraft, I would strongly recommend that you try Taqueria Mexico. I am not the only person that enjoys dining at Taqueria Mexico. Just read what one other satisfied customer has to say, “The food is out of this world. Traditional dishes make the experience absolutely wonderful. You can get a beer in a frozen mug, and they have the best quesadillas in town. This is a weekly eating place for my family and friends. The salsa is wonderful and a bit hot sometimes. The sopapillas are out of this world.” I would not steer you wrong. Whether you are from the Fort Hood area or not, it is worth your time to travel to this fantastic restaurant and experience the bold taste of old Mexico.
