Effect of earthquakes in Sichuan province Earthquake in a geographic overview is seismic waves that are suddenly created by earth’s crust energy release causing a sort of vibrating movement of the earth surface depending on the magnitude and frequency. Sichuan is a town in China from the Sichuan province that is prone to seismic activity evidenced by a high magnitude measuring earthquake also known as Wenchuan earthquake in 12th may 2008 that raked the land by killing more than 65000 people and 18000 missing.

Problem statementA proper detailed research needs to be carried out to clearly asses the economic, physical and social impact of the Wenchuan earthquake to the Sichuan local population and to the surrounding environs as well. It is of great concern that the Sichuan locals and the surrounding inhabitants from the towns like Yunnan and Huizhou were affected in a great extent by the destructive Wenchuan earthquake. It is an understatement to state that the earthquake only disrupted their proper livelihoods.

It did more than damage and left the consequences exposed to the surviving population who are bearing the brunt. Research questionsHow has the earthquake affected their economic output and trade relations with the immediate surrounding towns and the country as whole? How has the earthquake affected their structural and basic infrastructure (e.g. the transport system)? How has the earthquake affected their social lives and relations at personal level, community level and national level?Approach overviewThe Sichuan local authorities will be contacted for their authorization guidance and assistance of the research because of their strong connection and language advantage with the locals.

The research will involve interviewing all classes from the upper class and lower class to give their experience from the earthquake and how it has impacted their lives whether positively or negatively.ReferenceWang, Li, Yuqing Zhang, Wenzhong Wang, Zhanbiao Shi, Jianhua Shen, Ming Li, and Yong Xin. "Symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder among adult survivors three months after the Sichuan earthquake in China." Journal of traumatic stress 22, no. 5 (2009): 444-450.
