Assessment of Obese Adults Assessment of Obese Adults In most cases, individuals who are obese express interest in different physical activities participation as a way of losing weight and keeping themselves both physically and healthy fit as they control the effects of the health complications in their bodies. Even so, as they grow older the obese conditions become risky because they experience high blood pressure conditions and cardiovascular risks as they find it tasking to take regular exercises. More significantly, older people with obese conditions experience changes in their body physique as their muscular strength and flexibility of the bones decreases because they become exposed to difficulties from engagement in physical activities (Howley & Franks, 2007). As a result, caution must be taken while recommending exercises for obese adults, who wish to engage in weight loss physical exercises to prevent further complications that come about with aging, to ensure that suitable exercise and fitness test is undertaken (Howley & Franks, 2007). It is critical to evaluate an individual’s physical fitness level to check for health complications associated with obesity conditions. More considerably, to measure the physical fitness level of an obese adult, remain imperative to carry out an evaluation through ascertainment of the PAR-Q rating, health status, general medical history, risk factors and precautions, medications, health and lifestyle related behaviors. More significantly, it is also critical to carry out testing of CRF, endurance, flexibility, and strength, body composition, nutrition, readiness for change, motivational strategies and give recommendations on behavior modifications based on the assessment. PAR-Q rating More than often, assessment of the PAR-Q rating is more suitable using the recommendable president’s council on physical fitness and sports tests questionnaire that remains essential in ascertaining an individual’s agility towards physical activity (Howley & Franks, 2007). Taking an assessment of Marsha who is fifty-one years, using the president’s council on physical fitness and sports test indicates that she is obese even though, she does not have any heart complication and joint problems that could hinder her engagement in physical activity. However, the questionnaire indicated that Marsha has so far not experienced dizziness that is accompanied by chest complications, because she has not engaged in vigorous physical exercise. After the assessment, using the questionnaire on PAR-Q rating indicated that even though, Marsha is obese she is fit to engage in any physical activity, as she gradually needs to lose weight, as recommended for participants who have obese conditions. Health Status An assessment, of Marsha’s health status to ascertain whether she is at risk of any health complications indicate that she is obese. More considerably, Marsha has not had any serious complications and she is not restrained from engaging in normal physical activities that will assist in weight loss (Howley & Franks, 2007). It is exceptional for caution to be taken on Marsha’s health status especially because she is highly exposed to increased high blood pressures, diabetes and cardiovascular complications among other health complications that could hinder her from being healthy, as a distinctive health precaution to follow for her weight loss exercise program. General Medical History In most instances, the medical history of a participant affects the exercise process as it is based on an individual’s health status. More considerably, an assessment of Marsha’s medical history records indicate that she is obese and is at a high risk of getting diabetes, pulmonary, cardiovascular and blood pressure complications that could hinder her from engaging in physical exercise before seeking a physician’s advice. An assessment of Marsha’s medical history indicates that she can only engage in simple physical activity as she gradually gets used to more vigorous exercise in her weight loss program. Therefore, Marsha remains physically fit to engage in non-vigorous physical activity that older obese adults can engage in with ease. Assessment Results on Testing CRF, Endurance, Flexibility, and Strength More considerably, it is decisive for instructors to ascertain the levels of CRF, endurance, flexibility and strength before developing a safe and effective physical fitness exercise for participants with obese condition. With an overweight condition, Marsha should engage in non-strenuous physical activity considering her age that will strengthen her muscles (Howley & Franks, 2007). This is because, exercises such as sit up postures, yoga among other physical exercises that strengthen muscle flexibility level is essentially recommended physical practice for obese conditions. As a result, Marsha can gain a good VO2 max that would give an excellent rating scale for physical fitness (Howley & Franks, 2007). More considerably, it is essential for Marsha to increase her body’s metabolism rate as she exercises and rests, to keep her body weight healthy to avoid adverse overweight risks by carrying out aerobic and resistance training programs actively. Risk Factors and Precautions It is also decisive to check out for any risk factor and precautions analysis based on the effects of the obese condition on physical exercises (Marcus & Forsyth, 2009). More importantly, during the beginning of the weight loss exercise, Marsha should avoid strenuous activities that could lead to common pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases associated with increased blood pressures. As a result, she should monitor her blood pressure and heart rate conditions regularly while avoiding exercises that would expose her to health complications. More considerably, there is a need for high level of attention especially in the physical activity she participates in to avoid strenuous risky physical exercises (Howley & Franks, 2007). Medications In most cases, prescribed medications limit engagement in physical activity. Even though, Marsha has an obese condition she is not under any medication that could give further complications to physical activities (Howley & Franks, 2007). In addition, it is also necessary for Marsha to take regular medical check up on the blood pressure, cardiovascular, sprain injury and pulmonary conditions are more likely to occur as she exercises. As a result, Marsha’s instructor should allow her to participate in any non-strenuous physical activity because she needs assistance in any physical activity. Health and Lifestyle Related Behaviors As Marsha expresses interest in keeping fit, by joining a weight loss program it is essential to encourage her to participate actively in aerobic activities such as swimming and jogging exercises around once or twice a week. Even though, Marsha believes that she needs to highly engage in active physical exercises she has experienced regular difficulties with her current obese conditions (Howley & Franks, 2007). Just as other people with obese conditions, it is not easier for Marsha to take up exercises that could assist in development and maintenance of her physical and health fitness. Body Composition In most cases, body composition plays a decisive role in physical activity based on the height and weight ratio and the body mass index. As an older adult, Marsha’s body mass index level, indicates that she is obese conditions that could hinder her body composition while engaging in physical exercise. More significantly, Marsha’s waist to hip ratio indicate obese condition if it exceeds 0.86. More so, an analysis of a higher weight to height ratio indicates a girth measurements levels that is of obese older individual of her age (Marcus & Forsyth, 2009). Nutrition As a participant in weight loss program, it is more cautious to check Marsha’s nutrition levels in food intake as it plays a more significant role in engagement in exercises intensity levels for participants (Howley & Franks, 2007). More considerably, increased intake of calorie level in her diet indicates that Marsha will not lose weight gradually . In addition, intake of fast foods among other fatty foods that contain high levels of fat and sodium that are likely to increase the obese conditions and other health complications (Howley & Franks, 2007). In addition, it is essential for Marsha to take balanced diet with less junk food, carbohydrates and calories will allow for easier loss of weight. Readiness for Change More than often, the readiness for change depends on an individual to engage actively in physical activity regularly, Marsha indicates that undertaking physical activity allows for improvement of her obese physical condition. More significantly, based on weight loss and coach advice, Marsha will become more encouraged to develop a high level of readiness to change as she intends to undertake regular exercises through routine training for weight loss. In addition, the recommended exercise should maintain a high level of strengthened masculine and bones to allow for a good body physique. As she attributes her current obese condition, Marsha has developed a positive attitude, as she remains highly motivated to exercise frequently (Marcus & Forsyth, 2009). Motivational Strategies and Techniques In most cases, motivational strategies ensure that an individual participate more in physical activities they enjoy. Marsha source of motivation towards regular exercise will come from supportive coach, family and friends who encourage her to undertake active engagement in physical exercise (Howley & Franks, 2007). More so, an intrinsic motivation from Marsha’s decision to undertake a weight loss program indicates that her obese conditions will improve as she will gain satisfaction from engaging in aerobics and other muscle strengthening training. Recommendations As a process of bringing about intentional change, motivational stages are necessary, which help in the development of new physical activities behaviors. Through consciousness raising, individuals increase their knowledge of the negative consequences of lack of exercises, and their problematic behavior using attitudinal strategies (Howley & Franks, 2007). It is essential for instructors and physicians to insist on obese adults to engage in physical activity as a way of keeping a physically and healthy fit by losing from 0.5to 1.0 kilos a week. More significantly, it is essential to focus on maintaining achievable goals that enhance continuous positive behavior change especially as they engage in resistance training and aerobics exercises. Through the model of behavioral change, and practical strategies it is vital to enhance behavior changes that allow for a positive trend towards keeping physically and healthy fit.
