College: Reflection on T.R. Reid: The Healing of America The Healing of America by T.R. Reid is a report on Reid’s worldwide trip to underscore the provision of healthcare services. Essentially, the report provides a lot of relief to the ongoing healthcare debate in the United States. Contrary to claims by the republicans and a section of the American society against the healthcare plan, Reid provides anecdotes from other developed countries that could aid the ailing health care system in America. In consequence, the piece is an optimistic report regarding the possibility and mechanism of providing universal healthcare to the citizens. In one way of or the other, Reid faults the lack of a universal healthcare plan in the United States at this point of time. Here, he cites a WHO report that ranks the US dismally with regard to the provision of healthcare services. Reid laments the lower ranking claiming that the US ranks lower that some counties that are often considered low (Reid 21-26). The basic point is that other counters have numerous problems in their healthcare system but succeed in provide universal healthcare to every citizen. This is a point that Reid makes in relationship to the ongoing healthcare debate where certain sections of the society lament the impossibility of this scheme. However, from the findings, Reid asserts that it is inherently possible to establish a universal healthcare system in the United States by learning from the other models. T.R. Reid: The Healing of America makes a lot of sense to me. This counts as a very sensible piece of literature that underscores practical parameters regarding the provision of healthcare services. One of the major planks of the piece is its ability to provide comparisons between the US and other developed countries regarding the provision of healthcare services. Furthermore, Reid underscores the great importance of launching a universal healthcare scheme in the United States which he asserts that is very possible. Perhaps, the best part of the evaluation is the fact that in spite of the many difficulties facing the healthcare system of other countries, their services are universal and affordable. This faults the essence of the prevailing situation in the United States where healthcare has become a major source of controversy. Fundamentally, the analysis is of great importance at this moment since the country is embroiled in a tussle of whether a universal healthcare plan is possible or not. In reality, the analysis is more sense now than it would be in the United States (Reid 86). In his comprehensive quest to unearth a possible medicine for our ailing arrangement, Reid trips wealthy developed free-market countries like America—comprising of Canada, France Japan, Germany and UK — from whence he obtains encouragement in example. Reid shares substantiation from medical practitioners, administration officials, health care specialists, as well as patients globally, realizing that overseas health care schemes often offer more choice in addition to smaller waiting periods compared to the United States. And that feared monster “socialized remedy” becomes a myth. Numerous developed countries offer universal treatment with clandestine doctors, classified hospitals, and private indemnity plans—insurers that recognize every interviewee and by no means refute a claim. Over and above long-established arrangements, Reid as well studies nations that have conducted foremost health care transformation. The foremost question encountered by these states—and the America, for that subject—is a moral issue: Is health care an individual right? the majority countries have previously answered with a determined yes, sidelining America in a shadowy moral the backwoods with states we characteristically consider of as far fewer just than America. The Healing of America positions bare the ethical question at the core of our anxious system, dividing the misleading oratory contiguous the health care deliberate. In essence, each health care arrangement has its difficulties: Reid discovers badly paid medical practitioners in Japan, continuous lines in Canada, neglected patients in Britain, severe facilities in France. Nevertheless, all of them envelop everybody, bring into being better health outcomes, and spend far fewer than America. And none neglects its citizen’s one analysis away from financial mess up. Bringing optimism to one of our thorniest home issues, T.R. Reid exposes the global models that possibly will work in America as the country set out to cure a health care arrangement that has been unsuccessful. There are several instances in T.R. Reid: The Healing of America that supports what in have always known to be practical (Reid 81 -87). The provision of healthcare services is inherently possible bearing in mind the essence of the services. Furthermore, the provision of healthcare service does not necessarily need to be an expensive undertaking; there are mechanisms through which the offering of health services can be done with minimum costs to the population. So, it is practically true as Reid assets fir the United States to emulate and learn from other countries universal healthcare models and incept such a system. This will be a huge relief to the United States T.R. Reid: The Healing of America is a report that emanates form the trip of Reid across the globe in search for answers concerning the provision of universal healthcare. Basically, Reid’s concerns were raised by the advent of a debate pitting the Obama administration and the opposition. This has been concerning the posiiblity of launching a universal healthcare debate. Armed with these realities and a quest to underscore ho other countries are approaching the issue Reid travelled extensively crisscrossing the worlds most developed countries and seeking to evaluate their healthcare systems. The results of this errand were optimistic and astounding. Reid stated that in spite of a number of problems currently faced by the healthcare systems of these countries, the provision of healthcare services was universal. In order to underscore his point, Reid cites the WHO report on healthcare where America ranks dismally in the world. Even countries that are considered poor like Bangladesh have universal healthcare systems in place (Reid 29). As a result, Reid faults the stand taken by those in opposition of the healthcare plan insisting that America can learn from its developed partners and successfully incept a universal healthcare plan the piece is great in content and essence. Several things, make sense to me, first is the fact that universal healthcare is possible in America. And secondly it doesn’t need to be expensive; it will still serve the purpose intended. Conclusively, T.R. Reid: The Healing of America provides the necessary insight surrounding the aspect of healthcare and how best to handle it. It is a report of optimism over the possibility of a universal healthcare plan in the United States. Through lessons from other countries, the US healthcare plan can become a reality.
